(Almost) 7 Week Test - NEGATIVE!!!

I just got an HIV test today (tomorrow would be exactly 7 weeks since my exposure) and it was negative.

My exposure was receicing unprotected anal from a partner who claimed / swore he did not have any STDS and was HIV tested (last test 1 month prior to this encounter). Without getting into specifics, I had required a condom which he failed to use which I did not realize until afterwards, so at that point there was nothing he could say to make him trust him - thus the reasoning for my test.

It was a Unigold (I had never heard of it) which gives results in 10 minutes and looks similar to a pregnancy test. What I was told (again never heard of this) was that the Unigold is very reactive and sensitive and is typically considered conclusive after about 5 weeks (the negative side is that because of it's sensitivity it has a higher rate of false positives than other test methods). I am not quire sure I believe the statement of it being 100% conclusive in such a short period of time so I do plan a follow test in 6 weeks but I am not 100% confident that test will be negative too.

Again, just wanted to share my results with everyone I had spoken with here and who have provided me with their advice and guidance and wish everyone else the best of luck!

YES, 6 WEEKS IS VERY ENCOURAGING.

close to 95-98% accurate.

I thought anything past the 6 week test was 99%, not 85% or better.  A few days back someone posted on Dr. HHH's forum that the WHO site states that most individuals will seroconvert by 14-21 days, http://www.who.int/diagnostics_laboratory/faq/window_period/en/index.html.  With that information Dr. HHH wrote the following "The site says the window period is "normally" 14-21 days, but "normally" isn't defined; it might mean only 80-80% of people.  For advice on this forum, I'll continue to use ~90% by 3-4 weeks and ~99% by 6 weeks."  So isn't the 6 week test very very encouraging?

A 48 day neg is VERY reliable, probably >85%.  Receptive, unprotected anal sex is the riskiest sexual exposure there is.  I have a feeling you dodged a bullet this time but remenber the worry from this the NEXT time you are tempted.

Be safe and not sorry.  You know what that means.

ha, just like my gf, she had the 48 day negative result. It may not be conclusive but it sure does ease stress.
