Am I ok

Hi I'm a male who lives in the US. In early December I had a brief unprotected exposure with a hooker. Starting a week later I came down with some weird sickness. I had low grade fever, diahrea, insomnia, white tounge and weird muscle pains all over my body. It is almost 4 month and still I have some symptoms. Anyway i took tests at 4,5,6,8,10 and finally at 90 days. All negative. I have always been very healthy but my nerves have gotton the best of me. Is it still possible that I'm positive or can I move on.

We've given you the facts!  The FACT is, the OFFICIAL (CDC, testing manufacturers) testing guideline is 3 months, 6 months for people with severely compromised immune systems (see Vance's answer for examples, chemo, etc).

You have a conclusive result, end of story.  If you cannot accept that, I would recommend professional help.

I would have an easier time accepting it if my girlfriend didn't get sick 5 weeks after we had sex. She had a sore throat for a few days mild temp she said( I feel like I got the flu) and she had a ulcer on her soft pallate which she said she has never had before and a week later she had diharea for a week (stomach bug was going around) the CDC still states that if you had a high risk which I did that you should test out 6 months. I don't have any immune issuses I actually had a CBC done and all was normal. Don't know how I can get so many symptoms and my girlfriend also and still be negative. Sorry if some feel this is excessive I just want to know the FACTS about HIV testing and window periods

The people here have the knowledge and the experiences from the same organization ,, so thy will not tell people something will make the people life become a nightmare and every body will start to infect every body .. So that's why they advise 3 months ,, other then that they will tell you 6 months !!

3 months is the standard for several years. People who may take up to 6 months are chronic IV drug users, people going through chemyo and people who just had an organ replaced.

Accept your results or seek a therapist to help you accept them.

Can anyone explain to me why I see the six month time frame qouted all over the net and why the CDC says 97% at 3 months? I can't get past these symptoms. Could a std coinfection be delaying antibody production? I'm driving myself nuts. I've seen on other forums that some people tested negative at 3 months and positive 4,5 or 6 month. Please tell me real facts not just what 2 Internet drs state

I know what your problem is and I suggest you ingnore those site, you have been googling HIV window periods and seen many sites that say test out to 6 months just to be sure, but what I can tell you is that their information is all outdated, the HIV window period has been 3 months since 2004,that's 8 years now.

Maybe 20 years ago people did but what has an HIV DUO test got to do with antibodies,it looks for p24 antigen which is never delayed and peaks at the 4 week mark. The tests are very sensitive today and can detect the HIV virus alot sooner, you have been reading information from outdated websites.Your result is conclusive, there is no need to test out to 6 months.
