Am i infected with HIV?

by mido80, Nov 27, 2008 08:21AM
I had unsafe sex 2 month ago, then i went to have blood test and the results shows that i'm HIV positive, however the doctor told me we should go for HIV RNA test, as the rapid test might sometimes give wrong indication, is he right?

And i began to notice that i lost weight and i get dizzy from the smallest action i do

your doctor is correct in that a rapid test will sometimes give a false positive result.

Lizzie, thnx 4 ur fast reply, but i had unsafe sex with a woman from africa, she told me that she's clean

i want to know how come the test can be wrong, and will the rna give accurate results knowing that i had sex less than 2 month ago

by kama321, Nov 27, 2008 10:17AM
Yes ur RNA will give very accurate results but u shud follow it up with a SINGLE antibody test to seal it !!

Please do not have rapid tests as they have a high rate of false positive.!!

What about that unprotected sex i had, i'm really worried, i'm supposed to get my wife frm the air port after one hour, i don't know what to tell her should i stop having sex with her ?

by mido80, Nov 27, 2008 10:31AM
plz answer me, i'm so scared

by LIZZIE LOU, Nov 27, 2008 10:32AM
you should not have unprotected sex with your wife until you get a conclusive result.

what was your exposure?

by mido80, Nov 27, 2008 10:36AM
un protected sex with a frican woman, who told me that she's clean, but of cousre now i don't trust what she had said to me

is there really a chance that i'm HIV negative, even after that test showed that i'm infected

by LIZZIE LOU, Nov 27, 2008 10:45AM
there is a chance.  the only way you will know is to get tested again.

i hate to keep repeating...but you had unprotected vaginal/anal intercourse, right?  or was it unprotected oral sex?

by mido80, Nov 27, 2008 10:49AM
i had unprotected vaginal intercourse it didn't last more than 5 minutes

by LIZZIE LOU, Nov 27, 2008 10:53AM
IF the woman was hiv +...there is only a 1/2000 chance that you contracted hiv from a single exposure.  it is much harder for a female to transmit hiv to a male than male to female.  with that being said...it can happen the first time.

just test...

by mido80, Nov 27, 2008 11:00AM
if so howcome the first test turned to be positive, and if the rna test will state either i'm negative or positive, shall i test again ?

by Teak, Nov 27, 2008 11:04AM
An RNA test is NOT a stand alone test and has to be followed up with an antibody test.

by mido80, Nov 27, 2008 11:21AM
after how long shall i go for the antibody test after recieving the RNA test?
if i'm HIV negative, how come the test turned positive?

by LIZZIE LOU, Nov 27, 2008 11:49AM
whoa...no one has said that you are negative.  what has been said is that it is not unusual for a rapid test to throw out a false positive.

make it simple...go have an antibody test and be done with it.  if it is positive...it will be followed up with a western blot as a confimatory test.

I just kissed my wife (french kiss) but today all her body turned red (red spots), does that mean she's infected?

by the way i didn't have this symptoms

by mido80, Nov 29, 2008 06:36AM
Please Help me

by Teak, Nov 29, 2008 06:36AM
NO..

by mido80, Nov 29, 2008 06:37AM
so what's wrong with her?

by Teak, Nov 29, 2008 06:45AM
If she has a concern she should see a doctor. If one has symptoms of ARS they never come on that quick.

by mido80, Nov 29, 2008 02:25PM
guys i don't sleep, the RNA test results will come after 2 weeks, my first HIV test was positive, kindly tell me the truth, will i have a chance to be negative, do u know any one faced the same problem like me

by Teak, Nov 29, 2008 02:30PM
RNA tests are done the same time as antibody tests. Not a RNA then antibody test at seperate times. When one tests positive the test is ran again if it is positive a confirmative test is ran such as a Western Blot. Until then you are not confirmed positive.

by mido80, Nov 29, 2008 02:33PM
by the way the first test wasn't RNA, it's normal HIV test

by Teak, Nov 29, 2008 02:37PM
You don't do a RNA after and antibody test.

by mido80, Dec 01, 2008 10:18AM
Dear all,

Today is 3 month since the day i had unprotected sex, can you tell me what symptoms i'm going to face in the coming days?

I was talking to one of my friends who told me that there is no way that the RNA will be different than the rapid test, which means from his point view that i'm 100% HIV positive, can any one confirm or deny that

by Teak, Dec 01, 2008 10:22AM
You are not confirmed positive until a Western Blot or equivalent test is ran.

by mido80, Dec 02, 2008 08:57AM
today i turned two month since i had unprotected sex, could you please tell me what are the symptoms might occur to me.

my RNA results will come up on the 13/12/2008, how accurate will it be?

by Teak, Dec 02, 2008 09:00AM
HIV has no specific symptoms. You have been given the info on PCR RNA tests. They are approved supplemental tests in conjunction with antibody tests.

by mido80, Dec 12, 2008 12:16PM
Dear All,
Kindly answer me quickly, you all knew my story, although it's nlot confirmed that i'm HIV positive, i had safe sex with my wife, but when i withdraw the condom, we found some sperms on her legs, is there any chance that she got infected, the duration of our sex was too long.

kindly answer me urgently

by mido80, Dec 12, 2008 12:29PM
pls answer me

by mido80, Dec 12, 2008 12:48PM
i need help

by SeriouslyWorriedGuy, Dec 12, 2008 12:56PM
No one is online as of now i think. I am not an expert on this so I cannot answer your question . But I think if the condom was intact , it should not affect your wife .

by panther77, Dec 12, 2008 01:01PM
the best thing to do is to get tested again and since there is doubt please do not have sex with your wife ... until you are in the clear ... create an excuse not to touch her ... and before you start having sex with her in the future ...please please tell her the truth ... she has the right to know.

by mido80, Dec 12, 2008 01:13PM
i agree wiz you, but what is done is done, is there any chance that she could get infected?

by panther77, Dec 12, 2008 01:30PM
no if it was outside NO ... but just make sure you used the condom in a proper way when you were inside ... anyway since the 3 months have passed go get tested for a conclusive result
