Are False Monospot Positives Real?

Hello Everyone,

I'm going through the waiting game, after a particularly stupid sexual encounter, and have fallen ill about six weeks after that encounter with sore, exudative throat, slight fever which lasted a day or two ago, lethargy, and white tongue.

I tested positive for mono, and would be fine with that, if it wasn't for the fact that I'm pretty sure I had mono five months ago as well. Although exactly what I had five months ago was never confirmed.

Anyways, I've been reading about how an HIV infection can cause the mono in your system to re-activate, and give a false-positive mono test, and was wondering if that's really true with the monospot tests, and how likely that is?

It MAY cause mono like symptoms. Not mono itself. If you have had an exposure you need to test not only for HIV but other STDs.
