Are strep throat symptoms similar to ARS?

About one week after having unprtoected oral sex with no ejaculation and protected (I hope) anal sex with no ejaculation I developed a bad sore throat.  My skin also became very flush for about a day (not sure if it was a rash or just anxiety) I went to the doctor and had a "slight positive" strep test and a 99.2 fever, my question is is this indicitive about ARS?  I didn't ask my doc as I was very nervous and scared, any help on this matter is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

A couple of things really.

Oral sex is very, very low risk. The highest risk exposure is receptive oral sex on a man (ie. giving a BJ) with potential exposure to HIV through semen or pre-*** and is estimated by the CDC to be 1 in 10000 per event (ie. 99.99% likely not to occur). All other forms of oral sex are even lower risk - some experts would even say no risk.

Thanks, yes that is a big help....

I still worry though, even though we use a condom I am not 100% that it didn't break off or slip during sex, are the risks reduced if it did break and he didn't ejaculate?

Last night (week 6) I woke up drenched in a sweat, I am so tired of being afraid.

I've never experienced a condom failure but other posters here have said you would definitely know! The fact that he didn't ejaculate would reduce risk as that is the body fluid that HIV is in, though it is also found in pre-***.

If you are still worried, I would try and get tested, now that you are in your 6th week. The other thing that Dr H has recently said is that at a recent HIV conference last November, 300 HIV specialists were asked whether they had seen anyone turn HIV+ after a 6-8 week negative in the last 5 years. None of them put up their hands. Basically, a 6 week negative is very, very, strongly indicative of your HIV status.
