Blood Draw

Before anyone gets all over me and says that a health proffessional would never reuse a needle, is it possible if they did to become infected this way. I went in for a seven week test and the lady left and came back. I dint see here take anything out of the package as I was worried about the test and not watching. Anyways, it looked like a little test tube that took the blood. Even if it was reused, would the virus not die on the needle?

No Oral swap available here. I dont worry that they would infect me but it just seemed wierd for her to leave the room and come back. I went for counseling today and I am back at square one again. I didnt see her take anything out of the package as she made me lay down.

Hate needles so I looked away. It is iraational to think this way for sure. I guess if some physco was wanting to infect people and I was the one she got, I am one unlucky son of a ***** :)

I wish she wasnt such a mean old coot or I wouldnt be worried.

Or, you know, simply ask for an oral swab test. These do not involve needles. Instead, it involves swabbing a nice, soft oral applicator around the inside of the mouth. Quick, painless and, in 20 minutes, you have your results. Pretty good deal.

ok dude....u need to chill...U didnt get infeceted while getting your blood drawn !!
During a blood draw, blood is being drawn FROM your vein and TO the needle not vice versa. The only risk would be if the nurse injected something in your arm and that clearly isnt the case in a blood draw, or of the needle itself had blood all over it and it was inserted in the vein and this ofcourse is not posssible since:

1- you would have seen the blood dripping from it
2- The blood would be in contact with air so the virus will be de-activated

the next time you go and draw blood, watch the nurse open it in front of u and also, see how the needle looks like after its used and how blood is showing on it...it cant be used again unless it is cleaned

scared: I doubt beyond everything that anyone is going to re-use a needle.

ny: and this did happen in vegas.  Don't be scared by it though, I am the biggest worrier EVER, and I don't believe that this is happening everywhere, what I mean is, I'm not going to start questioning everywhere I get my blood drawn and all of that.  i probably shouldn't have said anything, but it was on the news for days, so I just assumed everyone had seen it or read it in the newpaper.

Is is possible to resuse a needle anymore? How come no one will answer this. I was todl today that if they were to use a needle it would not be efficient in drawing blood as it would be coagulated or dired in the

Do you agree though that blood would coagualte a needle and it would not be efficient in drawing blood. YOu would know if a needle was resused.

right on, I wasn't trying to insinuate it was, I just said it was a clinic is las vegas...las vegas clinc, I believe it was the "Endoscopy Center of Southern Nevada".  I don't live there, so I don't know if there is an actual clinic called "las vegas clinic".  Sorry, I wasn't trying to say it was an STD/HIV clinic.

I don't know about needles, but the Las Vegas clinic did recently send out over 40,000 notices to patrons of the clinic explaining that they have been re-using syringes and vials and that all people could have possibly been exposed to and should be tested for Hep. B,C and HIV.  Just google anything related to Las vegas clinic and re-using syringes.  I just could not believe it when I saw it on the news.

Okay, I went to the clinic and talked to them about this. I was being a little irational but they said they get the question lots. They are so used to drawing blood that they sometimes forget to let the patient see them take it out of the package. Anyways, he said even if they did reuse a needle it would not draw blood as it would have coagulated inside the needle. Therfore, you would notice. The needles are disposables and for one time use. Anyways, I was hoping Teak would confirm this so all the WW's could get an aswer when they are freaked out and not just take it from me.

So even if it was reused, there wouldnt be much of a chance from transmission? I keep thinking that if someone wanted to infect people, this would be a pretty easy way to do it and you could never prove it as you are testing for it anyways so if it came up positive how would you ever prove it. The nurse just seemed reall wierd and let the room for five minutes before drawing the blood.

So basically, to become infected this way she would have had to taken blood from someone who is positive and imediately used the same needle for me?

I think I am going to go and talk to the clinc today to ease my fears.

Ya, I jst wish I would hav elooked to make sure it was sealed. I think what if the person wanted to infect me with something. It is pretty irational to think this way though as they are there to help you. I was just a little freaked as she left the room for 5 minutes and came back and drew the blood. The first time for hep they didnt leave the room at all and of course I am back to square one thinking I could have gotten it from that now. This is horrible and I want it to go away.

i have the same concern everytime when i visit the clinic when i have no other choice to get test for something and it has to do with needles.  I always had a fear for needles poking into my skin.

Hi there,

Just to assure you your risk is remote even the needle is refused....of course, i fully trust that it wasn't reused.

It has been a standard practice that syringes/needles used in medical institutions or hospitals are disposable, not reusable.
