How is someone supposed to know what generation test the labs are using. I know Labcorp uses the ICMA that was approved in mid-2006. Does this mean it is 3rd or 4th generation?
Quest Diagnostics uses EIA tests, but what generation is it?
I'm just curious if anyones knows. I would certainly hope these 2 labs would use the latest and best technologies but I have no idea. The main reason I ask is that if the window period is 3 mos this is partially due to the more advanced tests...4th gen.
Really? I thought it did. It seems to be clearly stated that part of the reason the window period has been reduced over the years is due to the more advanced tests.
I would have to assume that Labcorp ICMA would be considered a newer gen since it was approved more recently. I don't know about Quest or any other labs.
I read a post on thebody from a year or two ago saying the US doesn't use the newer gen tests. This didn't seem logical so I thought I would ask.
Not all tests go by generations. Most test that are updated go by a a totally different name. Such as the old OraSure, now it is called OraSure Advance.
Do the so called "advanced" tests detect the IgG and IgM antibodies also? I read that IgG and IgM detection is what reduced the window period probably because these antibodies are generated early.
I'm particularly concerned about ICMA test done by Labcorp. If not, where can I find a 3rd generation hiv
