'Catching' HIV isn't as easy as a lot of people think- correct?

After I asked my question last night ( & got quick replies from Lizzie Lou & Teak- thank you) I read through this site for HOURS!.

I started reading about 9pm and stopped around 4:30 am!

It seems to me after reading all the questions & replies that HIV is very difficult to get... even through some 'questionable risky' behaviors.

I think that maybe a lot of terror that people feel is because it's been drummed into our heads -when HIV/AIDS first came to media attention- that this disease is so frightening & spreads fast.
At least this is what I remember back in the '80's.
I suppose it was good to be scared at that time- but now so much has advanced as far as prevention/ knowledge & treatment but this doesn't have the same weight in the media as it once did.

Anyway- thank you for this site and all your work in answering the same questions over & over every day.

:)

OK- I stand corrected. Please feel free to delete my post so I won't confuse others who may read it.

It was just my observation from reading all the posts on various scenarios that contracting HIV 'seemed' to me not very simple. I DO understand that unprotected sex and needle sharing etc is very risky behavior.

I guess I didn't/am not able to state what I mean very clearly.

I agree with you about the African nations. I was just referring to the posts that I read.

Again please delete if you all feel it's necessary.

Yes you are correct. HIV is not as easy to contract like other diseases and Stds. HIV is a very fraigle virus. But don't get in the habit of thinking "It won't happen to me."

Depends on your location. If you are not from a country that has high rates of HIV transmission and then I would doubt you were hear that much.

Oh yes! I mean the attention to all the advances in treatment & detection isn't as publicized as it was 30 years ago.
At least not where I live.

Thank you again for all your work here.

HIV/AIDS is still scary today, there is no cure.
