A few Days ago I accidently touched a purple/blue plastic case (It looked similar to the case which glasses are kept in). I picked it up to move it out of the path as i did it opened, as it did I saw a capped syringe and possible a loose needle (I am unsure about the loose needle) because I quickly dropped it not knowing where it had been. I was just wondering if I could of been pricked or not or would I have felt it? When I looked closer at the syringe in the open case I saw a sticker on it saying caverject. I am pretty certain it never touched me I was just wondering what it was and what it might do to me.
Thank you. I am pretty certain that it never pricked me, but i was unsure because it uses a very little needle and isn't suppose to hurt, which is why i was worried. I just checked it on en.wikipedia and it's near the bottom. I was just wondering does anybody know the chances of getting hiv
from a needle stick OUTSIDE of a healthcare setting, Keep in mind that sometimes sanitation workers and cleaning people in hotels and such sometimes accidentaly get poked from a needle and like i said that no one has ever been known to have become infected outside of a healthcare setting.
wow!! those odds are really reasuring thank you. I don't know if this will make any difference but the case that it was in looked like it had been there along time. I'm not sure if the case is air tight but i believe that the hiv
yes thats true that the virus cant survive long outside of the body but that goes different for a needle because the blood inside wouldnt be really exposed to the air. But, a needle that hase been laying around for some time eventually the blood would have to dry out. But thats depending on how long the needle was laying arund. With all that said thats why NO ONE has ever been known to have become infected outside of the healthcare industry. Obviously sharing needles with someone for drugs is a risk because most likely the needle just came out of someone elses arm and it is filled with fresh blood and that goes the same in the healthcare indusry. But a needle poke outside of a healthcare industry shouldnt be taken lightly
I have gone from really worried to quite calm now, so thank you. Actually thinking about it the odds will be extremely low because i'm not actually sure the needle pricked me, sure it is really really small but wouldn't i have felt it? I'm not sure about the little pin pricks though because there was a small red spot
on my left hand (which has nearly disappeared) but i had fell over less than a 10 seconds before and grazed my left wrist. In fact me falling over actually brought my attention to the case.
I am kind of in the same spot as you, well actually im more worried about something than you actually are but im sure that if you were poked by any needle you would feel it. Have you ever been doing something and you were poked by a nail or something or have you ever touched a plant that had thorns on it and were poked by a thorn? It hurts huh, Thats because and i am no doctor but your hands have tons of sensitive capabilities. If you were poked anywhere on your hands you would no it. Know if you can just beleive it and forget about it and that goes for me to.
Thank You for all your help, i'm just one of those people who worries about little things, but i didn't bleed a drop of blood at all, and i washed my hands in antbacterial soap straight away and used an antiseptic wipe aswell.
I have just looked on google about the type of needle it was and i found it that it is a 29 gauge small bore needle. So i am now thinking that i might not of felt it if it had pricked me. There is a tiny red dot on my hand but i don't know if this was from falling over.
Thank you for your help by the way.
