Clear mucus in my throat, G.F sore throat. scared

Hi doctor, Im a 20 year old male and i lost my virginity unprotectedly with an 18 year old female last febuary. She always tells me shes clean because i keep bothering her with questions. A month or 2 after that i had a scrotum rash, which is still there but doesnt bother me. 5-6 months later i had a dry mouth and white patches on my tongue mainly on the right side and towards the back of my tongue. I was on ciproflaxin 500mg antibiotics for over a month day and night bc of groin problems. 2 weeks after i finished the biotics my mouth/tongue/throat problems occured. White patches on the right side of tongue, clear white phlegm in my throat and feels like something is in my throat. Gets worse after i eat and drink. Im scared of Candida bc i know all these are symptoms of HIV/Aids. My girlfriend and I constantly kiss and engage in oral sex only. Now shes has a sorethroat for about a week and she tells me she feels like something is stuck in there. Same with me constantly. Please tell me im gonna be okay and her as well. Im afraid if i had it i passed it to her. I hope you give me good news doctor.

Welcome to our Forum. Your post suggests that you may have some misconceptions about both HIV risk and about the manifestations of HIV.  Your risk from a single exposure to a 18yo heterosexual women is very, very low. Overall in the U.S. less than 1 in 1000 women has HIV and if your partner does not use IV drugs that figure is probably closer to 1 in 10,000. Further, the risk of getting HIV even if your partner had HIV, the infection is transmitted in less than 1 per 1000 sexual encounters. Thus, statistically your risk for infection from the single exposure you mention last February is mathematically about 1 in a million, at most.  Very low.

Further, please understand that the manifestations of HIV tend to occur after the infection has been present for years and even then, most of the manifestations are non-specific and actually most commonly associated with non-HIV conditions.  Symptoms such as possible thrush, non-specific scrotal rashes, or throat irritation do not suggest HIV and are probable due to something else.

My advice is two-fold. first, do not worry. there really is little reason to do so. the second suggestion is that you, like everyone else, should have an HIV test.  At this time the results would be definitive and therefore when you get a negative result from HIV testing you could be completely confident that you do not have HIV and for that reason neither you nor your GF are at risk.

I hope my comments are helpful to you.. EWH
