Condom Slippage

Hi there,

I generally tend to be a "worried well" gay man.   I am a gay male who recently started dating a new guy.   We both were tested for HIV and other STDs just as the relationship began (part of our own regular screenings which happen to be at the same time) and discussed our negative results with each other.

This weekend we had protected anal sex, with me being the insertive partner.   About 3-4 mins in, I realized that there was a condom slip, and I withdrew immediately, but could tell that I had been inside him without the condom on (albeit for a short amount of time).

He doesn't seem worried at all - but I can't help think that I should consider PEP?  Although he recently tested negative, and we've agreed to be monogamous, I still feel there could be a risk given window periods, etc.

Many thanks for any advice you can offer.

nPEP is normally for those who have had a risk with a known hiv positive partner.

that is totally your call...but with your partner's test and his reassurance that he is negative...i personally wouldn't go on nPEP.

thanks Lizzie....really appreciate it.  One final question and then I will try and rest my mind.   Do you think PEP is warranted in this case?   My partner keeps telling me I don't have anything to worry about.  I am just wondering if I should head to my local GUM clinic (where I normally get my routine HIV tests) tomorrow.

you are correct to be "concerned" about the window period.

you can have a duo test at 4 weeks or an antibody test at 6 weeks.  either one will give you an excellent indication of your status and highly unlikely to change.  as you may already know...a conclusive result is obtained at 3 months post exposure.

you probably don't have anything to worry about...most ppl don't lie about their status.

no that's fine - I appreciate you asking for details.   It was pretty much lost during sex, I think.   It wasn't hanging out.

sorry to keep asking for "details"...but was it hanging out?  trying to see if it was lost on withdrawal or during sex.
