Condoms

by DR79, Sep 05, 2006 12:00AM
Hi..I had an encounter with a girl the other night..I am a man...we had sex with a condom that to my knowledge did not break or slip off completely.

However, during intercourse, I did not maintain my erection the entire time (I had a bit too much to drink) and I did not ejaculate. When I pulled my penis out, I noticed that the condom had slipped up from the bottom of my shaft to about mid-shaft. I believe the head of my penis was inside the condom at all times.

I am wondering what type of HIV risk there is for this type of encounter. Is this even something to worrry about? Was there any legitimate chance of contracting any other STD? I spoke with the girl in question and she mentioned that she tests regularly and is fine, but I still am nervous about this. Thank you in advance.

"I am wondering what type of HIV risk there is for this type of encounter."  Zero.

"Is this even something to worrry about?"  No.

"Was there any legitimate chance of contracting any other STD?"  Nope.  Extremely low risk of herpes or HPV, given the skin-skin contact with her genital secretions.  But this also is much too low a risk to worry about.

"I spoke with the girl in question and she mentioned that she tests regularly and is fine, but I still am nervous about this."  Why?  Most people don't lie about such things when asked directly.

Mellow out.  Don't get tested for HIV or any other STD on account of this event.  Just go on with life.

Good luck--  HHH, MD

Thank you doctor. In general, would there be any HIV risk involved in this type of encounter as long as the penis head remains in the condom? I know this must happen to many people along the way - at what point does condom silppage become worrisome?

Already answered.  See the first line of my reply.  The answer was no then and it's no now.  It shouldn't be necessary for me to repeat the exact words from your question.
