You never had an exposure.
Hello Lizzie,
I had a sexual encounter on 21/03, on the 44th day i.e. on 05/05, I had rashes completely circling around my neck comming down to both sides of the chest.
This got me very worried and I went for a hiv rapid spot test on 06/05, excatly 45 days after the sexual incident. The report said hiv I & II (CARD) - NEGATIVE
Being really worried and still not being at ease, I opted to have an ELISA test on the 70 day mark i.e. post 10 week on 31/05. I decided to test at 10 weeks because I was thinking if the rash was a ars symptom then antibodys would have show up after 25 days of the rash appearing.
The result was Negative.
Reading various forums and articles, the comman consensus is, a test at 12 or 13 weeks is considered conclusive primarily because the 3rd generation rapid hiv test kits in India are licensed for diagonising post 12 weeks.
If we consider my sexual encounter had an element of risk, would this mean:
1. My ELISA test was not reliable?
2. How long does it take for detectable antibodies to show up after ars manifests?
Any advice from you will help me ease my mind..
Thanks a lot,
you had NO risk...why would you test?
Thanks Lizzie,
Do I need to go and take a precautionary hiv rapid test after 6 weeks?
nothing that you've described put you at risk for contracting hiv.
