Could I be infected

About 4 years ago I had a one night stand with a girl after a party. I used a condom and had vaginal sex with maybe less than a minute of anal sex. A month later I had gotten a flu like illness which included fever, sore throat, runny nose, cough and had swollen lymph nodes. I didn't really think much of it since I usually get the flu once a year around the same time of spring.

That was my first sexual encounter.... 2 years later I met a girl and was having sex on a regular bases with her and ONLY her and I am 100% sure that she also was not unfaithful. I mostly use a condom while having sex with her and on a few occasions had sex without a condom with her.

While doing research on HIV for a class I started to get very worried about being infected because of my initial flu like illness but i keep telling myself that its a coincidence as I still get the flu once every year. I recall my girl friend being tested 6 months into the start of our sexual relationship for a insurance policy and she was negative (we had already had sex numerous times up to this point with and occasionally without a condom). I have had no other symptoms or problems.

Could I be infected with HIV?? The main cause for my anxiety is the flu like symptom that I had 4 years ago after my first sexual encounter....is it possible that this is ARS and that I am infected or could this very well be a coincidence?

Thank you and any help will be greatly appreciated

When has protected sex been a risk? Never...it was no risk.

Thank you for you quick response.... I just wanted to add that the lymph nodes around my neck seemed to be a little enlarged for several months after my possible exposure.

Also about 6 months later I came down with a ear and throat infection which the doctor gave me antibiotics for and I was fine after finishing the entire course.

I have to get tested in May before I start my rotations (kinda of ironic that I am scared about all of this since I am in med school) so I didn't want to have more stress than I already have from Path and Pharm.

So Teak, with the added information am I still at no risk and should not stress too much about having HIV (as I have worked really hard to get where I am and in my mind having HIV and trying to be a doctor only makes the road tougher)

Thank you and this will be my last post as I have noticed that excessive posts are looked down upon.

You had protected sex 4 years ago. No Risk
If you haven't tested with your recent girlfriend then you should both test together.
