by deathsdoor, Nov 04, 2009 12:58PM
hey med help im i need of your help its 7 and half weeks since my incident and after getting sick (flu symtoms) on the 6week 1 day mark i was filled with anxiety i still now have a bad chest cough which i carnt shake, so i went to the drs today and this time told him what happened back in september (open cut on finger which was bleeding and fingering a high risk girl) so he offered me a rapid hiv test which has come back as reactive. now he has said that false positives do happen on these tests, so he has took more blood and sent it off for a eliza blood test and something called a western blot he says these will confirm whether hiv is present or not and said the flu like symptoms i had at 6 weeks could be a thing called acute retero viral syndrome, i now have to wait 14 days for my new tests, can you tell me how likely it is that i got hiv, im real scared im only 20 years old just dont want this 2 happen to me, when i asked him how likely it was that im positigve he said he doesnt believe in statistics only facts which has really really got me scared am i doomed

Here is some facts to help you. Masterbating (masturbating) someone even with a cut (highly doubt that it was bleeding but anyway) is not a risk. You can go into the Experts forum (Dr's who specialize in STD's and HIV) and they will tell you or you can search as they have told other that it is not a risk.

Yes rapid tests do have a higher false positive rate.

ARS symptoms never come on at 6 weeks. They come on at 2-4 weeks and last 1-2 weeks.

So everything which has been proven by science says you got a false positive.

First of all your name shows your anxiety!!!

As Vance has correctly said, ARS always happens if at all at 2-4 weeks and lasts 1-2 weeks.

Test at 3 months post exposure for conclusive result and then you can move on, I agree with Vance, its highly probable its a false positive.

If you are positive then you have had other risks or you will be the 1st in over 25 years of HIV to get it that way. So you had other risks if your positive.

defo know other risks i tested negative in july by normal elisa test that was 13 weeks after i had protected sex, only thing ive done then kissed a couple of girls, and the above

the dr didnt breed any confidence in my result changing tbh, just waiting now i know the nest two weeks are going to be hell. he also said before i tested that my body would of most probably have created enough anibodirs to test now. thats why i tested,
