Distressed Dubai

I contracted herpes simplex like 8 years earlier. On Sept 20th I had unprotected vaginal and oral (giving and receiving) vaginal intercourse lasted for like under 5 minutes. The lady is a Uzbekistani sex worker and has many clients. I was intoxicated when she climbed onto my penis whilst I had no condom on. I suppose the herpes I had was dormant and there were no visible cuts plus I poured some aftershave on my penis 2 hours later to kind of disinfect it and identify cuts or breaks on the skin via the stinging sensation one gets.

Basically I after 20 days on October 10th I went to my home country and did Elisa test for antibodies. The result came negative for HIV-1 & HIV- 2. During the test, I explained to the doc what happened and he prescribed a penicillin shot and  antibiotics. I didnt get the chance to get the medication as I was recalled to work in Dubai and I left on the first flight available.

After 12 days of my exposure, I developed a rash on my forearms, chancre on my penis head & a cold that persisted for 2 weeks. I had trouble swallowing coz of i think sores in my throat all the way down plus a rash on my lips the size of a dime. I also developed mouth ulcers.

After a respite of 2 weeks I developed a 2nd cold and an external left ear sore appeared. I felt pain when I yawn and when I feel my neck under the jaw there is a sharp oain. I also got a sore on the side of my tongue at the same time. I went to a doctor and he concluded that I have swollen neck glands and throat inflammation. He prescribed Zithromax (antibiotic) and ventolin.

The chancre is still there now and I am 45 days post exposure and the sore on the side of my tongue is still there though less painful.

I just wanna remind you that I cant risk losing my livelihood and do a test here or get the penicillin shot. But I'm planning to go to back home and do the tests. Complete tests for all known std's.

I wanna ask

1.  What are my chances with the 20day elisa test that I did?
2. Are my symptoms same as ARS?

What kind of hiv test should I go for as I get only 1 shot of doing it coz I cant get leave to go back home till after 10 months or so. I know its under the 3 month mark but is there any test like a combo?

What are my chances of hiv in numbers after the 20 day elisa.

P>S the test showed I had a high number of white blood cells and the doc said probably its for a reason like fighting infection.

Thank you all this forum is really helpful.

1. A test that early is really useless...3 months is conclusive
2. No because the majority of them don't even fall within the time frame and they are not ARS symptoms.

3 months with an antibody test. This is the only test and time that will give you a conclusive result.

Thanks man

Two days ago was day 48 for me and I took the combo test (antibody and antigen) result was negative. According to Dr. HH, 6-8 weeks is good enough?

Remember I live in a country where I cant really take a chance to do test. I will be deported immediately without even being given a chance to pack.

Thanks for your response

There is NO TEST that is marketed or sold that will give a conclusive HIV test result earlier than 3 months.

HIV Doctors MedHelp International, say that an HIV test DUO AB / AG, is 99,89% conclusive at 4 weeks.
HIV testing in France 4th Generation AB / AG, is 100% conclusive at 6 weeks, if its sensitivity is <50 mg / ml.
Here follow the CDC recommendations, which are very conservative, thirteen weeks.

To: JM Garcia; Everyone
Thanks a lot for your responses. I'll update you guys on the outcome of antibody test if i get achance to do one.

I'm in trouble always when I use a condom with my wife.

She's suspicious of me (though rightly)

Wish me luck guys.

I am very optimistic after reading JM Garcia's response.

Thanks man.

PS

Has anyone ever heard of a 7 week negative result changing to positive in a healthy person with no previous history of chemo or immuno altering treatment regument at any given time?

by unwiseacts, Nov 09, 2009 06:15AM
@ jmgarcia: The reason we use 3 months here, is because that is the point at which the tests' results are deemed conclusive.

@ Distressed: I don't say this to alarm you, so please don't be. But since you ask, yes, I do know someone who tested negative at the 6 week mark and went on to test positive at the 3 month test with confirmation afterword (or so he claims, anyway - he intended to test at 6 months also). I'm not sure how truthful this person was being, however. Bottom line, a 3 month antibody test will more accurately gauge your HIV status, so take the good advice given to you by Vance and Teak. Good luck to you.

Sorry I didnt quite cath what you were saying. Could you post it in English Please.

Thanks for the information. I got no way of testing again over here. So I think I'll take my chances anyway.

Good luck to you all and be safe too.

Thanks a million. I checked it out. Are their tests reliable? As in they dont just draw blood and send everyone a negative report?

Thanks all

I think what I wanted to ask you is that Do they actually test the blood? Coz I'm thinking they said they take it to a diagnostic lab outside. Dont you think that when a positive result is confirmed then they are obliged by law to report to the authorities or else they risk getting their licence suspended.

Hey Dubai-dude,

Okay, I have been watching this post today and couldn't resist posting.

1. You were tested on a IV gen Test, it packages AB and AG together. Now, I will get a little technical to explain you the effectiveness of this test - The average time to sero-convert is 7-14 days post exposure, 7 days post sero-conversion the AB is almost always detected, that sums up the whole math to 14+7 days = 21 days. Another 7 days of buffer and the IV gen test is at it's best now because if the body has already sero-converted the AB is detected and if the body is sero-converting the AG would be detected. In your case the AB detection was doing it's job but the AG was ineffective because AG at 42 days is practically impossible. In a nutshell, your test result is highly indicative and when you back your test with a final one a the 12th week you should only expect another negative.
