Do I have HSV1 & 2

Do I have HSV1 & 2

I jus recently went for an 8panel STD test and these were my results for HSV:
HSV 1 IGG, HERPESELECT KS
TYPE SPECIFIC AB
Result: <0.90
Index Interpretation
1.10 Positive
This assay is type specific and will differentiate
between HSV-1 and HSV-2 infections. A single positive
result only indicates previous immunologic exposure
and the level of antibody response may not be used
to determine active infection or disease stage. The
test should be repeated in 4-6 weeks when negative or
equivocal results are obtained in suspected early
herpes simplex disease.

HSV 2 IGG, HERPESELECT KS
TYPE SPECIFIC AB
Result : 4.65 H
Index Interpretation
1.10 Positive
This assay is type specific and will differentiate
between HSV-1 and HSV-2 infections. A single positive
result only indicates previous immunologic exposure
and the level of antibody response may not be used
to determine active infection or disease stage. The
test should be repeated in 4-6 weeks when negative or
equivocal results are obtained in suspected early
herpes simplex disease.
The performance of this assay has not been established
for pediatric populations, for neonatal screening, or
for the testing of immunocompromised patients.

1) Im not sure but did i test positive for HSV 1&2, i think the HSV 1 is negative but the numbers arent is 5.65H for HSV 2 and i havent had any symptoms ever?
2) Should I go test again in 4-6 wks if it if it is positive?
3) What exactly does these result mean and what should I do?

Welcome to the Forum.  Unfortunately, you have posted on the wrong site.   Questions about STDs belong on the STD site.  I will do my best to answer your questions with this reply but, if you have additional questions or follow-up they must be on the STD site.  Sorry.

Your test results are negative for HSV-1 but positive for HSV-2.  Of the over 20% of American adults how have HSV-2, about 90% of those o not know they have it.  This most often happens when someone has had an outbreak they did not recognize or attributed to something else.  The fact that you have HSV-2 however almost means that it is likely that from time to time the virus is present on your skin even in the absence of lesions an, as a result, there is a chance that you could give the infection to others through unprotected sexual contact.   Now that you know you have HSV, research suggests there is a goo chance that at some point in the next few months you will notice a lesion at a site of sexual exposure.  If you do, I suggest you go on an get it tested with a culture or PCR test to prove that that is what it is.

There is no need for further testing for HSV, the test will remain positive.

Many questions about herpes can be answered with the information obtained by accessing excellent informational web sites such as the one run by the American Social Health Association (disclosure, Dr. Handsfield and I are both on the Board of Directors of ASHA).   EWH
