Do I need to get tested?

Do I need to get tested?

Dear Doctor,

I am pretty busy individual with work. I have been staying away from sex life for good part of 10 months till today. I haven't had sex by any means, but I have received unprotected blowjob from working woman. I thought I was going to get handjob, but then she starting to give me blowjob. I got caught up with that moment and finished her mouth.

She is 41 years old white American woman. Blowjob lasted for good part of 5 minutes and I ejacuated in her mouth. I did kiss her twice for good 2 to 3 minutes with tounge. While I kissed her, I didn't taste any blood.

At the end of incident, I did ask her about her health status. Ofcourse, she told me that she is clean. But, here I am asking you questions.

(1) My biggest fear is HIV. Do I need to get tested for 5 minutes of unprotected blowjob?

(2) What are chances of any other STDs? I couldn't see any visible sores in her mouth.

(3) I had very small cut on my outer lips which wasn't bleeding at the time of kissing. Is that risky?

I believe in what you are saying over other healthcare providers. After hearing about above mentioned incident, if you tell me that I have nothing to worry about, I won't even bother testing because I don't want to waste my physical or emotional time behind testing and then waiting for results. However, if you advice me to get tested I will do so. I am single straight male who is staying away from sex until I find long term partner.

I think that I am risk free and I can move on with my life. But, I want to hear from you.

Thank you

P.S - Sorry, I posted same post in other forum.

Welcome back to the forum.  You have set my personal record:  in the 7 years since I started doing the HIV Prevention and STD forums for MedHelp, you have had more comments than any other user -- over 300! I'm not sure whether you or I should be congratulated.  Given your activity on the professional and community forums, my guess I you know the answers to these questions, so my replies are brief.

1) HIV is almost never transmitted by oral sex, especially from an oral to penile partner.  And it sounds like your partner is very unlikely to have HIV.

2) STDs tend to be uncommon in women over 30.  There are theoretical risks, however, for gonorrhea, herpes due to HSV-1, nongonoccal urethritis, and syphilis.

3) Neither HIV nor other STDs are transmitted by kissing, regardless of cuts on the lips.

In summary, I agree with your instinct that no testing for HIV or any other STD is necessary.  If I had had such an exposure, and if within a couple weeks I had no STD symptoms, I would not get tested and I would continue unprotected sex with my wife, with no worries about it.

Quick Edit - The cut on lip is still fresh and if pushed, it bleeds. So, you can thechnically say it's bleeding lips but not activly bleeding. Sorry!

Thank you!! Yes, I have been on and off this forum especially when I do something stupid like this. I am trying to find answer to this, but I couldn't. That working lady actually swallowed it. So after the session, I asked her isn't that risky for her? She told me that stomach acid will burn whatever she swallowed. She wasn't too concerned.

Not that I will ever do anything like that, but I want to expand my education about this subject. Is swallowing risk factor? I promise, this is last question:)

Swallowing semen isn't harmful; it's done all the time.
