Yes, you will need to test at 3 months post exposure. This is because you are not sure if she is in a window period or what time frame of the window period.

When you test use an HIV antibody test NOT a PCR

Hope this helps

No.

If sex was unprotected then an antibody test done for you at 3 months is conclusive. If she was protected then you had no risk.

i read if viral load is undetectable so hiv transmission is not possible,
my sex partner had hiv ab negative so she was not hiv positive at least for 3 month ago,
only risk is that she was in window period. we know if person is positive and viral load in blood is undetectable, it is possible that person has high viral load in semen,
but in my case, it is different. i want know viral load in semen and blood is same in window period? if they are same so possibility of transmission is very very small in this case.

You read wrong. As you were told your 3 month post exposure test will be conclusive.

Dear Teak
please read below:

Non-detectable viral load means no PEP?
Jan 28, 2011

Doctor,

I had sex with a prostitute and condom broke. Anxious, I took the girl to a hospital and got her tested with both antibody and PCR, both of which came back negative. I was still concerned that she may be in her window period, so I asked for PEP, but the doctor said there isn't enough risk to justify it. It might be because the doctor didn't know the lady's profession (as I didn't want to tell him in her presence), but I don't know. Do you think I should get a PEP? If so, I'll see another doctor about this. I'll need to hurry before the 72 hrs timeframe expires, your help is greatly appreciated.

Anxious guy

Response from Dr. Frascino

Hello Anxious Guy,

Do I think you should get PEP? Nope. Absolutely not. I completely agree with the advice you received from the hospital physician. PEP is not warranted.

nPEP is prescribed to people that have had a risk with a KNOWN HIV positive person within 72 hours of exposure. Risk meaning, unprotected anal or vaginal sex and sharing works.

Please read carefully,
the person want know he must has PEP or not?
he is in hurry because he is in 3 days, his sex partner has RNA PCR and AB negative two days after exposure, so Dr. BOB told him he is not in risk and he doesn't need any PEP.

ReRead what Teak has told you about PEP above and then read this again, I took the girl to a hospital and got her tested with both antibody and PCR, both of which came back negative. She could be in her window period, BUT she is NOT KNOWN to be HIV+
