Earliest symptoms of Acute Viral Syndrome

by saisam, Jun 12, 2009 12:08PM
I have a few short questions:

1. What is the earliest a person can start to experience the symptoms of Acute Viral Syndrome?  Can symptoms begin within 3 days?

2. Is there any difference between testing at 6 or 8 weeks?  Obviously I would prefer to get tested sooner.

Thank you very much for your help!

1. 2-4 weeks post infection. NO
2. No because neither are conclusive for a negative result.

thanks, teak.  i understand that 6-8 weeks does not provide a conclusive negative result, but i as i understood several recent posts by you and others here, 6-8 weeks has become a very good measure of your status in recent years.  as you and others have said, results after this period of time basically haven't been changing (from - to +) for a while now and unless you have some other atypical health problems, such a test can be considered a very good indicator of your hiv status.  did i misread yours and others' posts?  or are you just being extra cautious in replying to me?
