Elisa and Liquor

Dear Doctor,

I wanna ask if i having a small glass of liquor (around 200ml, 40% alcohol) 8 hours before i take HIV test(Elisa-ealier generation), will the accuracy of the test be affected? Thank you for answering my question.

No. having a short or eating before an HIV test will not affect the results.

Just to add; you need to test at the three month mark to get a conclusive result.

Hi...thanks 4 helping me...but do anyone one of u have any inofrmation regarding this?? If yes, pls let me know...cause i'm very very worried...I did take the Elisa test 99 days after certain risk exposure, is it ok??

yeah 99 days is over 3 months and 3 months is conclusive.  ELISA tests for the hiv antibody in your body.  alcohol doesn't affect the test or the antibodies.  does this make sense?  since your antibodies are unaffected by alcohol (the cytochrome P450 in your liver gets the blunt of that attack) it won't make them disappear.  i hope this helps.
