General HIV questions

1) Are ELISA and EIA the same technology? 2) Is one more sensitive than the other.  I have had a EIA HIV 1/O/2 (bio-rad GS HIV 1/2 plus OEIA) done at 5 months which was negative.  I also had a test by LabCorp ICMA done at 5 1/2 months which was negative. 3) Are these both reliable tests? I am having some wierd symptoms(tingling in feet, lingering sore throat, and increased floaters) can I believe these tests without a doubt.  Last question 4) Are the tests that I took able to look for the rare strains(N or P)?  Appreciate any info one can give on the matter.
Thanks
sorry....but is a 6 month test needed?  Would two weeks make a difference?
Thanks again

* Anyone who continues to post excessively, questioning a conclusively negative result or no-risk situation, will be subject to action by MedHelp. Conclusively negative results or a no-risk situation will be based upon the criteria established by MedHelp’s doctors. Action will be taken as follows:
    * After excessive posting, a warning will be issued by MedHelp
    * Continuing to post regarding the negative result / no risk situation will result in a 3 day suspension
    * Continuing to post upon your return will result in a permanent ban.

Even thought not "officially" approved for as stated by manufacturers, will the current antibody tests used in the US pick up the odd strains?  The test I took states it will detect "O".  But will they pick up the other strains like "N" and "P" groups and CRF's?  I spoke with the manufacturer and they said it was not officially approved for but was a 3rd generation test.  Thanks

"3 months is when you can obtain a conclusive negative test result"-Teak

3 months is conclusive...symptoms are meaningless.
No one has used 6 months since like 2004.

The questions were only asked for information purposes and if that would change your thoughts due to ongoing symptoms.  Mr. Teak, if you could look back at post before Vance2335 and answer I woiuld greatly appreciate it.  Thank you

So you read what Teak said about 3 months is conclusive yet you choose to ignore what he says?

I see where you say 3 months is conclusive.  Are my 5 and 5 1/2 month tests rock solid then despite symptoms?  Can there be a chance that there is a strain that is not detectable by the tests that I had?  When do you feel one should stop testing for HIV and look elsewhere to as cause for symptoms?  I want to have sex with my wife but dont want to infect her.  please advise

They are the same tests along with the MEIA. 3 months is when you can obtain a conclusive negative test result. Yes they can detect both and your chance of contracting either groups is ZERO.
