Thank you, thank you. My doctor is freaking me out with his commentaries! I was diagnosed with simple gonohhrea, took a week of antibiotics and retested. The doc said "so far, so good now get a HIV
I think Teak as usual misinterpreted someones question. The presence of other STDs, including gonorrhea, does increase the risk for HIV, simply because many people with STDs are coinfected with more than one STD. Whenever anyone has a positive STD test, it is protocol to also get an HIV test and tests for other STDs. Teak, aren't you over 50, should you really be calling people dorks?
No Gonorrhea is not a symptom of HIV. But as regular joey mentioned, its only logical to get tested for HIV as well.
REGULARJOEY: your answers are reasonable....but would be more convincing without unnecessary TEAK bashing.
guiltnworry: looks like you are going overboard with this new teak-bashing, regularjoey, dumbo-pleasing attitude. Please try to be kind. Also, it would help if you read the orignal question and the accuracy of teak's answer to it.
Its not a bashing, more of a concerted effort to stop Teak from spreading false information. No one on here should be doing that and claiming to be an expert as he does. You havent said anything stupid, so no, I am not concerned with your qualifications
I've never seen Teak give any information that wasn't correct. The question was "Can or is gonohhrea (or any STD) be a symptom of HIV infection?" The answer to that question is most certainly no! It is true that the likelihood of acquiring HIV increases if one acquires an STD, but STDs are not symptoms of HIV. STDs are diseases which have symptoms of their own.
Thanks to everyone. Unfortunately, the discharge has returned. My doctor seems to believe that, regardless of what he says, my BF is the culprit. Another MD friend told explained to me how gonohhrea is contracted from oral sex GIVEN to you or you being a top in anal sex. I'm not sure how correct that info is as there's nothing on the web that confirms or rebutts it. In any case, I have to get retested for STDs and go back on the antibiotics.
The point is, I think Teak knew what the poster mean about the link between gonorrhea and HIV and instead of putting up a reasonable answer, he said no, it is not a symptom of HIV. Yes, that is what the poster asked, but I am sure he/she did not mean symptom, but rather was curious about the association between HIV and gonorrhea. It is expected of Teak that he wouldn't know the answer unless someone else had already posted it somewhere, so he just answered with his usual, one sentence, non-helpful reply.
I responded to his question. Not assuming he meant anything any different. LOL, you have room to talk about knowledge. Just go back and reread your post to the doctor. LOL
To reiterate, in case you can't read, I said I think you knew what his original question was. Perhaps you were not qualified to answer it because you don't know about most aspects of HIV which people ask about on this forum. I can admit that I didn't know the answer to my question, but look on the forum a**hole, not many people post on abnormal paps. Have you ever had an abnormal pap, Teak? I didn't think so. It doesn't hurt to ask and get knowledge you don't have. You should try it sometime instead of being such a pri*k all the damn time.
My boyfriend just got all of his test results back and he's completely negative on all counts - HIV, gonohhrea, chlamydia etc. So why do I have gonohhrea (according to my MD)? I took the meds for a week, as prescribed, had follow tests that indicated an "all clear" then I begin with a discharge again 3 days later, though not as thick and profound as originally. I went back again yesterday for another round of tests and should know something Monday or Tuesday. Anyone have any opinions here?
How were you diagnosed with gon.? Were you actually tested for it, or did the doctor diagnose you just based on the genital discharge? It is possible that you just have urethritis and actually not gonorrhea at all...
I agree with regularjoey. If you have been faithful to your boyfriend and he does not have it (and never did have it) then you can't have it. It doesn't just pop up in places, you can't get it from the toilet seat, etc. Unless your MD tested specifically for gonorrhea, he doesn't really know if you have it. It could definitely be urethritis (or an inflammation of the urethra).
The MD did swab cultures and they (according to him) came back gonohhrea/chlamydia. My boyfriend is clean as a whistle. The last time I had any contact with anyone was about two months ago when I was playing with a massues. I noticed he was hard and began playing with him and put him in my mouth. He said no and it ended. I talked with him last week and he said he's got no problems, no symptoms. So....
It is unlikely that you got the chlamydia or gonorrhea from the masseuse as there was no penile vaginal contact. I would talk to your boyfriend and see if he maybe wasn't telling the total truth and maybe had gon/chlam and got treated for it without telling you. They are fairly easy to treat and go away quickly. Not trying to make you worry, but it seems unlikely that the masseuse had anything to do with it.
I got back all the test results today and I'm all clear - negative on all counts. But I still have a slight discharge which the MD cannot figure out. He prescribed another round of antibiotics but for 10 days rather than 5 as original.
Can Gonorrhea and Urinary Tract Infection be misdiagnosed for one another? I was diagnosed with UTI and the Doc on here said that it could have been Gonorrhea and not UTI seeing as I'm a guy and men do not get UTI. However, I've read that they do, but its much less normal than in women and usually in the presence of some deformity of the urinary tract or HIV.... My test is tomorrow and needless to say, I'm really nervous.
I've had all tests done including HIV and all came back negative. My BF did the same and he's all negative so what gives? I think it might be a misdiagnosis and I'll be going to a specialist this week to get a 2nd opinion.
I'm very confused. Initial tests one month ago were positive for gono/chlamydia. I took 5 days of antibiotics and it cleared. within 3 days it reappeared but tests said negative. I went again for more tests including blood tests and everything came back negative. The Dr however gave me another round of antibiotics for 7 days. The discharge, though very small compared to the original, and burning sensation is still there. Could this be something else?
If you tested negative again after taking medication. Your signs and symptoms are not gono or chlamydia. Yes, it would be something else. If you are still concern make an appointment with a urologist.
This response is a bit late, but the doctors did run tests. They said that there was a high concentration of Leukocytes in my urine. Noone seems to answer my question about antibiotics for UTI clearing up Gonorrhea if there was indeed a misdiagnosis. Is that possible. I know that one of the antibiotics I was given is used to treat NGU... Non gonnococol Urethritis. I also know that antibiotics kills, bacteria indiscriminately, meaning that if it were a misdiagnosis and I did have Gonorrhea, the treatment may have worked anyway and now I have no way of knowing.... Anyway, I get my test on Monday and will see.
