HELP!

Forgive this post but I just found out that I may be pregnant from my HIGH RISK HIV exposure 37 days ago.  Now I don't know WHAT do do?!  I took an RNA b-DNA test at 3 weeks (neg) and two antibody tests at 3 and 4 weeks (neg) but am experiencing more and more symptoms (which I KNOW mean NOTHING relatively speaking) each day.  The back of my tongue hurts so bad and is covered in red lesions and is all white.  I will take a pregnancy test in the morning for verification and go to the dr. but don't know what else I can do?!  ANY SUGGESTIONS would be helpful!

You do not have HIV, as your RNA test reveals. The average time is 9 to 11 days. Your symptoms are not related to HIV. I wish you the best.

A conclusive negative test is 3 months post exposure.

I agree with you.  You should share that fact with Dr. Hook.

My last reply through the Doctors Forum from Dr. Hook was:

For HIV diagnosis, while things may be changing, there is still a higher risk of getting a false positive test result from an RNA test than from the recommended antibody test.  On the other hand, false negatives are extraordinarily rare.   A negative RNA test at 3 weeks (22 days) makes it very unlikely that you have HIV.  My recommendation differs from that of those who did your testing in that if you have a negative antibody test at 6 weeks, when considered with the negative RNA test you can be sure that you did not get HIV.

You can never be sure that you haven't contracted HIV until you have had a conclusive test result. There are NO TESTS approved to give a conclusive negative test earlier than 3 months.

Like I said, I agree with you or I wouldn't still be worried.  I know you are very informed and welcome your input.  I wish you well! :)
