HIV 1/2 EIA AB Screen
Hello -

On 03/04/14 I had blood drawn for a standard STD panel.  Within 24 hours all results were received except the HIV 1/2 EIA AB Screen.  The column next to the test name, for results, indicated that the test results would be available 03/13/14.

Is this bad news? How long/what is the turn-around-time for this particular test?

Thank you in advance.

Teak - would you be able to answer this question?

The sample was sent to a lab, not a POC situation...

If you took a test 24 hours after exposure it will not tell you a thing about the exposure you just had. HIV tests can tests can take from 4 hours to 2 weeks depending on the lab.

sorry for the confusion.  I can barely type.

I had a relationship from August-October.  With a male of unknown status, said he was negative for all STDs.

In November, and January I took a oraquick at home test -- both negative.

I just went yesterday for an annual pap smear and had blood drawn for a std panel.  On the patient results webpage, I have non-reactive results for hep b and c, syph., but the HIV test has the date of 03/13/14 next to it...

I am just wondering if this test normally takes so long if it's sent to a lab?

You've tested conclusively negative if you've haven't had another exposure.

I want to rely on the oraquick, but I just can't.

And I can't understand why the blood test would take 7 days?

but anyways, I trust your judgement and appreciate your time.
