HIV Combo

HIV Combo

Hi

I had unprotected sex with a lady
40 days post the exposure:
HIV combo test
hiv ag/ab numb: 0.14
hiv ag/ab: Negative

65 days post the exposure:
HIV Combo (I&II Antibodies + p.24 Antigen)
0.36
Negative

CMV virus (Positive)
CMV IgG   (Positive)
CMV IgM   (Positive)
Monospot  (infectious mononucleosis screen) (Positive)
RF (Negative) but Anti Ccp (Strong Positive)
C-reactive protein CRP (Positive)

1- are both of the HIV tests that I took are the same?
2- The different in numbers means anything to HIV?
3- do I need more tests? at 3 months and again at 6 months?
4- some people told me that both of HIV tests that I took, are good only if they been done between 25 days to 35 days post the exposure! is that true?
5- does the positive tests listed above effect the accuracy of HIV tests result?
6- CMV, monospot and Anti Ccp, does they cause a fever for about 7 weeks which I had with weight loss,  muscle and joint pain and sore throat?

Thanks

Welcome to the Forum.  From your description it sounds as though you have a mononucleosis syndrome.  The combination of symptoms you describe plus a positive Monospot test are diagnostic.  On the other hand, your HIV tests are also proof that you did not get HIV from the exposure you mention.  While I agree with most of what you were just told in the HIV prevention Community site, I can also tell you that their responses regarding repeat testing are overly conservative and that you do not need further HIV testing related to this exposure.  Your results are definitive as combination HIV antigen/HIV antibody tests provide conclusive results at 4 weeks (28 days) following exposure.

As for your specific questions:
1.  Yes, both tested for both antibodies to HIV and for the HIVp24 antigen.
2.  No the change in numbers does not mean anything. It is normal/typical for the numbers to bounce around. This is day to day variation in the test.
3.  No further testing is needed.
4.  No. Whomever told you this is incorrect.  Why would someone make a test that only worked between 3 and 5 weeks following infection.
5.  No. While your test results confirm that you have mononucleosis, the results would not in any way effect your HIV test results.
6.  These symptoms are all perfectly compatible with mono.

Hope this helps.  Take it easy. The only thing you can do with mono is wait it out. EWH
