HIV Concern

by UnNaMeD429, Nov 06, 2009 06:32PM
Ok I had unprotected sex, and oral sex with a female Oct 18th, actually we had sex for like 2 weeks. Not all unprotected but a few times. Turns out she had Hep C stage 4. She had got from a blood transfusion when she was 2, and is now 25. Say's she just found out 2 years ago she had Hep C. I read Hep C is rarely transferred through Sex. SO that's not what is bothering me so much. But I did ask has she ever gotten tested for HIV, and she said she hasn't. So my question is could she live for 22 plus years, and not know? She has gotten alot of blood work done, but it was mainly for the Hep C. Does doctors test for HIV etc, as well considering someone has had Hep C for 23 years in her blood test, along with the Hep test? I'm a little frightened here as I've had a HIV test around 2 years ago and it was negative. Which is good, but now I'm frightened that maybe she could have Hep C and Hiv seeing as alot could have caught Hiv with blood transfusions before 92. I was also wandering when should be a good date to get tested just to be safe? Considering our last sex encounter was Oct 19? Ok back to beating my head in the wall for being dumb...

The answer to your question regarding her living for twenty two years with hiv and not knowing is virtually impossible. Hiv tends to develop into Aids without retroviral treatment at about 8-15 years, and you could only imagine that it would be able to develop more rapidly in a child, who doesn't have a fully developed immune system at the time of infection.

You could get tested at three months past oct 18th for most conclusive results, but you should be calm because you most likely do not have hiv. If this woman acquired hiv before 1992, and recieved no treatment she would likely have progressed to aids at this point.

The biggest concern you should likely have is your decision making. Why would you sleep with a woman without asking her status. Why would you not use protection.

Either way it is very unlikely that anyone would survive for over fifteen years, while recieving constant medical attention, and the physicians not be aware that there has been a progression of hiv. For most people who don't recieve treatment the disease would develop by that point. Also, even if you had unprotected sex with her a couple times and she was infected, the likelihood of infection is 4 in 10,000 for each unprotected act as the insertive partner in unprotected vaginal sex. Get tested at three months and you will likely be fine.
