HIV Negative After 6 months

by t2ts, Nov 09, 2009 10:16AM
Doc - had unprotected sex 6 months ago with someone I've known for a while.  She got married and hadn't spoken with her for nearly 3 years.  Make a long story short, she got divorced and we got together.  HUGE mistake.  About 3 months after the incident I noticed white patches in my mouth, nausea, loss of weight, swollen left gland in my throat, peristent sore throat.  I have also noticed several red spots on my arm and torso that I didn't have before.  The dermatologist said they were angiomas and not to worry.  I've been to the Dr 6 times in the last 4 months and he says my symptoms are anxiety / depression related.  I told him what I did and took the HIV 1 & 2 Antibody test at 175 days after exposure.  Very relieved it came back negative but am still feeling lousy.  Headaches, sore throat.  My appetite has improved and have gained some weight back but am still not convinced about the 6 mos test result.  Are results at 6 months conclusive or do I need to take another test?

the CURRENT guideline for a RELIABLE AND CONCLUSIVE test result is 3 months post exposure.

YOU DO NOT HAVE HIV :)

I appreciate the feedback.  I only ask because I've read that follow up tests at 9 and 12 months may be necessary.  Not questioning your expertise in this area just trying to understand what the gold standard really is.  I've heard so many things.

3 months post exposure is when one can obtain a conclusive test result.

Hi Lizzie - I spoke with the Dr office about my test results.  They did say they were 99.89% accurate but that they recommend testing at 9 and 12 months.  Any idea why they would recommend that if 3 mos is considered conclusive?  Just curious.  Thanks.

Does anyone know if medications such as Ambien or Wellbutrin have any effect on blood tests?

I apologize Lizzie.  I am dealing with an unbelievable amount of Anxiety, Stress and Guilt.  Even after the negative test result, here's what I'm dealing with:

Constant Aches / Pains in Arms and Back
Pesistent itchy skin
White Patches in mouth
Constant stomach growling / gas
Frequent Headaches - pressure in back of head and neck
Persistend sore throat
Swollen left throat gland that comes and goes
Burning sensation in the top of mouth
Chest Pain

I guess with all of this happening consistently I am still extremely worried.  Again, I apologize.

Then see a Dr, it has nothing to do with HIV.
