HIV RISK

Hello Doc,

I had unprotected sex with my gf only 1 time on 14.11 and got antibody tested on 29.12 which came 0.005.I called the clinic and they said it is negative. So i got tested like 6.5 weeks after the exposure.i can't ask my gf about her status as we are no longer together.Could you please tell me if my 6.5 weeks test reliable and should i get another test?I only had 3-4 days fever not bigger than 37.5 2 months later and have dry cough for the last 10 days.Should i get tested on 90th day and/or 6 months later?

Thanks

The official and conclusive HIV window period is 3 Months post-exposure and has been since 2004,any other information you read about 6 months or 1 year is outdated.A negative at 6 weeks is an excellent result with modern testing.

3 months (90 days) will be conclusive. there are no such tests that are sold with conclusive results before that time period.

Rainlover,

Thank you for you answer i appreciate it.I am jsut confısed coz what i see is that many doctors follow ths issue with 15 years old books and information. Some even say that i shud get tested on 6th month and even 1 year.As far as i know the window period is 4-6 weeks and people that might turn to positive after 6 weeks are people that are maybe having cancer treatment or smt.Is that true or do you know any offical ststictics about turnin to postiive after 6 weeks?

Thanks

A 6.5 week negative result is 99% accurate,a negative result at 90 days is 100% accurate and conclusive.

But does 6.5 weeks negative mean anything? the girl was just a normal girl not a sex worker and it was only vaginal sex there was no anal
