HIV Risk? Tinea too.

Drs,
Last March, I had one episode of unprotected sex with a friend's girlfriend. It lasted about 25 minutes and resulted in ejaculation. I am 26 years old and the girl is 23. I have been best friends with her for 3 years of which she has been very faithful to my best friend. Also, neither of us live in the city. She is a white female, who seems fairly healthy. For the most part, everything has been fine. In fact, I didn't give the episode much thought, especially since I was symptom free. In fact, I haven't been sick with anything (even a cold) for YEARS. But, last August, 6 months after the episode, I had mild discomfort behind my testicles, that lasted 2 weeks or so. It feel like they were rubbing against my thighs when I walked. I never had any pains when urinating. So, I wasn't sure what it was. I should note that the injury might very well have been a result of an injury from Judo. I was training VERY hard around that time period. Then, in November, I developed a spot of athletes foot, but I thought it was just a blister from walking so much. Then, that spot turned into two spots on the same foot. Both, were silver dollar in size. A week after the spots on my foot appeared, I had a spot on my thigh. I have had eczema in the past, so I put B5 lotion on it and anti-itch creme, not knowing it was jock-itch. After a couple weeks, the tinea corporis rash spread all over my thighs and buttocks. Even on my arms. I got smart and applied Walmart brand clomitrizode (sorry for the spelling). After roughly 40 days of using the product, I must say that the itching is gone and the rash is about cleared up. Though, I do seem to have some post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (mostly from scratching).  Should I be worried at all about HIV? I've only had sex once, and it was with her. We are no longer in communication, so its not like I can be frank with her about her status. Also, at what stage in the illness does Tinea typically occur in HIV positive people? What makes HIV tinea different from common tinea? Hmm, I think that's all my questions. Thank you so much.

Any time someone contracts HIV is one to many. There is no reason in 2010 to be contracting HIV.

And, we can't be sure that those 7 people in 30 years weren't lying. One exposure= little to no risk.

So why does the doctors here kind of shrug it off as if it never happens and they wonder why so many people come here with fear and confusion. However 7 cases in 30 years of the disease is pretty low considering the amount of people posting with regards to unprotected exsposures, do you think its safe to say it happens but it is very rare?

thanks for answering these by the way

IF YOU WILL WEAR CONDOMS CONSISTENTLY AND CORRECTLY...YOU WONT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT CONTRACTING HIV.

People do contract HIV on single exposures. Use condoms correctly and consistently and you won't have to worry about contracting HIV and most STDs.

hi are you saying your son got hiv from a single exsposure of vaginal sex, because if that was the case surely the doctor would acknowledge his case here and advise differently for people with single exsposures it just in all my time looking up symptoms and worrying about my exsposures i was yet to find a convincing case of a infection from a single exsposure especially one via a sex worker.

thanks.

Yeah, but was it with a woman or another man? Also, how many times?? I see on your page that your son was suffering from drug abuse as well. No one in my circle does drugs. The virus is not as pervasive as many think. Besides, if it were that easy to contract the virus, the whole world would be in big trouble, especially in America. There are a lot of babies being born in this world... all product of unprotected sex. Gosh, if it were THAT bad, every couple hoping to have a child would have to be tested. The truth is the highest risk groups are blacks, gays and drug users. I don't fit into any of those categories and neither does my former partner or her boyfriend (who was my best friend). And, even unprotected sex with a woman WITH HIV, the virus is unlikely to be passed. So, I think I'll stick with the advice from the doctors.

Well, thank you for trying to put the fear in me, folks. But, after reading the responses of the Doctors to other people with similar problems, I realize that I have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to be worried about. My chances of getting infected after one encounter are non-existent. In fact, in a similar post. Dr. H, told another gentlemen that he didn't even need to get tested. So, I can take the same advice, especially because my symptoms have NOTHING to do with HIV, or any STD for that matter. Heh, excellent. And, I didn't even have to pay $20. Take care, and good luck.

if you were that confident...you would not be here asking questions.

Coming here for advice is never a waste of time and testing to know your status is not a waste of time either.

You have to pay at the expert forum for Dr's to respond. I agree with what Lizzie has already told you.

Thank you Lizzie. Still, I'd desperately like some advice from a doctor, online. I don't want to get tested, unless it is warranted. And, I don't think it is warranted, really. I mean, how many men contract HIV from a non-drug using female after only one unprotected encounter, especially considering the fact that there is only a remote chance that she (who was my best friend of three years) even had the virus? I'd just really like some feedback to alleviate some concerns. Surely, you understand. I'd also like some feedback for my other questions, particularly the relationship between HIV and tinea. Please help.

the only way to know one's status is by testing.  you can test now for a conclusive result.
