HIV SYMPTOMS

Dear Doctor,

SOS

I am worried that I may have had/ am having the symptoms of acute HIV.

In January, I gave oral sex to a man while I was intoxicated, whose HIV status is unknown to me. He did start to ejaculate in my mouth, but I did not swallow any of it. I rinsed my mouth out with soap immediately and gargled with soap and hot water.

In February, I kissed a man who said he was negative, and we attempted protected anal sex but it did not work and nothing continued from there. The next day I got strep throat for the first time that I am aware of.

I then got strep throat again in mid March, but both times it was cured with antibiotics.

On April 7th, I came down with a flu which included vomiting and diarrhea. It lasted for about 4 days. However, my mother had the same thing at the exact same time.

On April 26th, I got a sore throat again, white patches on the tonsils and swollen glands. For two nights I would sweat when I slept, but as soon as I took my clothes off it would stop. At that point I had post nasal drip for about 3 weeks. I should probably add that I am a smoker, 5-6 cigarettes a day.

I have now had about 6 tiny, smooth red bumps in my inner thigh/groin area, but only on the left side. They are not itchy, but they have been there for about a month - month and a half and have not left or grown. It does look like from time to time that skin is peeling around them, but I have to really look for it.

These are the only signs /symptoms thus far that I have had since February. I am a terrible hypochondriac and I understand that I need to go speak with a mental health therapist, because it has been consuming my life since April. It is not July. I am very scared and it gets so bad that my anxiety prevents me from sometimes leaving the house. I am going to go get a rapid, anonymous test done on Saturday so that I can either put my mind at ease or take the next steps.

If you have any advice PLEASE share.

(As a side note, I'm not sure if this is a factor, but for the last 3 years, since I have started smoking, my feet get blisters on the soles and then peel when they dry out or pop. This occurs mostly in the summer. And when this started happening I was still a virgin.)

Thank you for any information you may be able to provide!

Thank you so much,

I am still going to go get tested on Saturday to put my mind at ease.

I do have one question though, just for future reference. Do the symptoms of HIV usually all appear at once or do they come and go, or show up months after one another?

Thanks so much!

You do not not need to test over the events you describe.  You testing will only for peace of mind.

Sounds to me like you just need your tonsils out.
