HIV Symptoms FLU

I had unprotected sex with a prostitute. I was very drunk and do not remember even meeting her just having sex with her. She shot up and smoked crack afterwords. Yes this is serious it sounds like a bad joke. I heard it is extremely hard for a guy to get it from a women. But three weeks later I got very nautious, and had night sweats once. I have been nautious for four days now. I am worried but I was wondering what my chances are? Would this be considered high risk even though it was hetrosexual and I am a guy?

Any tips, advice, comments etc... would be appreciated.
Thanks

Rapid tests are FDA approved. If you can't seem to wait on an ELISA test then yes go for a Rapid test.

Like I said, rapid tests were designed to be used in special settings.  For example, many people test positive but forget to even check their test results. It just so happens that people that don't bother to come back for their test results are the same kind of people that often test positive for HIV - drug addicts etc.  That's one of the things rapid tests are good for - people immediately get their positive results and counseling.  People that come to medhelp are not like that, they don't need rapid testing.

Joey, what do you mean by people that come to this forum don't need rapid tests but should get ELISA instead?

Rapid tests are very reliable, but they are primarily designed to be used in special settings.  People that come to this forum don't need rapid tests.  If people want to test, they should get a regular ELISA.  If you have already tested negative with a rapid test, that's fine and you can move on.

why do you say take a standard ELISA and not a rapid test? Just curious.

Nausea and night sweats suggest anxiety more than ARS.  You have anxiety because you know you did something very stupid.  Take a standard HIV ELISA.  Honestly, I will be surprised if you test positive.

yeah i know what the math comes down to, bottom line hiv in that since is extremely rare to catch in the us, but hey getting tested is the best way to know, but the risk is still just about zero, so your aight bud just get tested if your unsure and by the way in a one time exposure many docs won't recommend it, but im just saying

Thanks everyone, does anybody know if having jock itch that is causing cracking or scaling on the testicles or maybe at the bottom of the penis would increase the risk of contracting the virus? Thanks

1/2000 is the same of 5/10000 just divide it by 5, 5/5=1 and 10000/5 = 2000 so 1/2000

1/2000 i've seen 5/10,000 not much of a chance you got it man, i was in the same boat with a girl i would've never slept with in a million years just alcohol did me in that one night, and like you i got sick but like 9 weeks later and i forgot about it until i look on the internet a year later after i got folluculitis, and i was like really and it scared me to the point that i had night sweats and yes stress does cause that, i went and got one negative,  bottom line just get tested i have got scolded before for telling people it really wasn't nessecary and i understand why, but if it will put your mind at ease thats what you should do anyway good luck.....p.s by the way you should be positive and normally people tell you if they got it, before hand even hookers

LOL, thanks ECN44120. Its weird how logic will tell you it is unlikely that you are infected yet there is a part of my brain that is just convinced that I have it. Yi Yi Yi

thanks

Yes it would be better to wait at least 6 weeks for very good indicator and then aq 3 month for a conclusive result, and nausea is very very common, for relate it hiv, it can be caused by millions of things that goes from spicy food to nervous brides,

Good luck

Thank you for your post, it does make me feel better. One thing I wasn't anxious about having HIV until I got nautious. But 1/2000 makes me feel better its just this stupid nausea and that one night of night sweats that I can't let go of. But these are some good stats. I was going in for a test tomorrow which would be four weeks but from what I am hearing I guess I should wait six weeks? again thanks

Anxiety, Stress, ect. produces nausea the chance of one unprotecetd vaginal sex is 1/2000 with a confirmed hiv positive partner, that would be even lower since you dont now if she was positive and most prostitues doesnt have hiv.

Eventhough the risk is low, you should test at 6 weeks for 95% accurate result and then at 3 months for a conclusive result.

Hope it helps

Thank You Teak and lama460. The thoughts about being exposed are consuming my days and nights. I go through times where I think I might not have it to times where I am wrestling with accepting it. Does anybody think that maybe I contracted herpes or some other type of STD and that could explain the nausea. Any thoughts would help!

The only way to know if you have had an exposure is by testing. TIPS? Don't mixing excessive drinking and sex.
