HIV Transmission via Bleeding Gums

I've posted on the forum before - basically I'm stuck out here in SE Asia (specifcally Malaysia) for another week, then I can go home to get tested out for HIV/STI/STD.  The catch is my colleague from the UK has just arrived and he's gone off the deep-end already.

We went out for a drink last night and I got home back to the hotel after he got pretty drunk - catch was this morning I found out he went back out & picked up a sex worker.  Luckily for him he couldn't "rise to the occasion" BUT he was doing a lot of french kissing and his teeth aren't the greatest (to much drink!).

Just under two hours after the sex worker left (she apparently said she was clean & nothing happened) he was brushing his teeth and they started bleeding - he's now panicing and asking me what to do.  From what I can remember I don't think he has a chance in getting HIV orally because of the saliva present in his mouth (he remembers waking up with a dry mouth but he drank water) plus he has washed out his mouth with water & coke only so far.

Any thoughts or opinions on this would be greatly appreciated so I can help him out.

I checked with him and he wasn't bleeding before when the sex worker was with him and it was defintely only about two hours after she left that he brushed his teeth & the bleeding started.

I had him brush his teeth again for me, after washing out his mouth with water (all he had left in the hotel room), the bleeding is coming from a few of his front teeth and eventually it stops after five minutes but when he spits out you can see the blood in the saliva.

I think I've relaxed him down enough but I'm going to take him out to buy some mouth wash to clean out his mouth to play it safe.

Ask him to relax, HIV is not transmitted in that fashion.

Saliva can't transmit HIV, and bleeding gum has no risk, it would have been at a low risk if only while kissing the sex worker his gums were bleeding PROFUSELY i stress PROFUSELY!

HIV is not his problem
