HIV and Smoking

Hi All,

I've been trying to find information regarding this topic online but am having trouble finding reliable sources. Obviously smoking tobacco is harmful to your health but does it put one at increased risk for HIV infection. All the information I've found is based on 6 studies which they showed that smoking will increase a person's risk of acquiring HIV up to 3.5 times. I question these studies methods and wonder if there are any additional studies I can find to get a better understanding. Thanks for your help!

Thanks Teak, I've seen you on this forum before and I trust your knowledge. I do smoke (I know!) and this is more of a matter curiosity than anything else.

No smoking does not increase your risk of contracting HIV. Unprotected anal and vaginal sex and sharing works with other IV drug abuse does.
