HIV in Amsterdam

by Flavium, Mar 31, 2009 09:28AM
Hi Doctor,

I visited  Amsterdam 3 weeks ago and I had oral and vaginal sex with a sex worker. I used a condom, as usual. But 2 days ago I`ve noticed I`m starting to have flu symptoms, like fever and headaches. This flu seems to be gone now, but I`m afraid this could be a sign of HIV infection.
Can you say what is the risk of catching HIV in my situation? Would a HIV test be indicated?

you were never at risk of HIV, not because it was Amsterdam, but you were sensible enough and used protection. You don't need any testing for this particular event.
