What Mike just told you is good advice. HIV is very hard to catch, still you did have unprotected sex, which places you at risk, so you need to test. Do yourself a favor however, and dont google too many things on hiv or you will go nuts, most websites out there, especially the forums are full of bs about the disease. I think you will find that this is one of the few sites that does have people that do know what they are talking about. Yeah and as someone said up there dont worry about the symptons because they mean nothing, just test at 3 months, you prob dont have it,chances are highly in your favor, still you need to test.
what are you talking about? no risk? this guy had a condom break and kept having sex...he was NOT protected.
There is no risk, no need to test. It's difficult to be transmitted
I would be better if a Dr. give you the PEP meds, since he is the expert, just go to ER at the nearest hospital.
Good Luck
*PEP, profilaxis post exposure, but it only would be effective if taken before 72hours after exposure*
Thanks! Thats what I was looking for. So basically Combivir (zidovudine+lamivudine) twice a day. I'll go get some right away.
You should inmidiatly go to ER, the can evaluate your exposure then, and i fthey think the exposure was risky enough they can give you PEP, profilaxis post exposure, but it only would be effective if taken before 72hours after exposure, so go know, if you can contact the girl, ask her to have a test and then you will have extra information to ***** your risk.
Good Luck
**Is this data on unprotected sex?**
Yes
Is this data on unprotected sex?
the forum programming cut off the comments inside the brackets. OK, second attempt:

Thanks for the encouragement, Mike.
**For one to contract HIV, he/she has to be exposed to substantial amount of infected fluid and female to male transmission of the virus is relatively difficult.**
OK, I did some quick research on this:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/7904668
Probability of female-to-male transmission of HIV-1
They analyzed a sample group of 1100 young uncircumsized males having sex with asian prostitutes and found a 3-5% probability per intercourse of catching HIV by vaginal sex female to male.
Thats a lot higher than some studies I have seen in North America that suggest a hit ratio of closer to 1%.
The scariest study was done in Kenya and suggested a hit ratio of almost 10%. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2569597
The authors suggest the high ratio of other STDs in males in Africa/Asia as responsible for such wide gap in results. Diseases like clap and scabs that open up sores on the guys genitals and facilitate the transmission of the virus:
**In a subgroup of 73 seronegative men who reported a single prostitute sexual contact, the frequency of HIV-1 infection was 8.2% during 12 weeks of observation. No man without a genital ulcer seroconverted.**
Hmm... sounds like presence of sores/ulcers plays a huge role in transmission probabilities.
I have no sores that I know of, so chances are I am closer to that 1% than 10%. I hope....
Thanks for the encouragement, Mike.

And yea, there are no docs here, this is patient to patient support
Alright, now relax and stop thinking about it, think logically and rationally.
Through my personal experience, I can tell you that condom breakage exposure is no joke. It's a major psychological setback more than an HIV risk, simply thinking about HIV.
Yes, you did have a risk and need to test. But, your risk seems to be so minute as it's almost negligible
For one to contract HIV, he/she has to be exposed to substantial amount of infected fluid and female to male transmission of the virus is relatively difficult.
It's very unlikely that your partner was infected and even if she was, it's highly unlikely that the infected semen of your partner had entered you through the urethra.
You must have been inside her unprotected for a very small time, which wouldn't be adequate enough to transmit the virus to you.
Symptoms means nothing, I can tell you that I have seen lot of people here on the board complaining about every possible symptoms the book reads for however running around with their conclusive 3 months negative result around with all the woo hoos
There's absolutely no need to go panicky, follow the right procedure, test at the 6th week from the date of your exposure and back it up with a final test at the 3rd month.
6 weeks negative changing ahead is highly unlikely and something that's unheard to me.
I'm very confident that your result would be negative cuz I & several others fared negative too during their scare which was very similar to yours :)
Good Luck
After a few condom breaks myself, I would advice you next time to know your partner's status before doing the do.
Only a three month test will let you know the verdict. In the meanwhile don't worry about symptoms becasue the are useless.
I am sorry about our experience because you did what we have been advised to do use a condom but it broke.
