HIV risk from oral

by kw111, May 22, 2007 12:00AM
OK, two part question:

My girlfriend was raped six years ago by a guy who was rumored to have HIV. It was a one-time unprotected vaginal encounter. She was tested last year, but never went back for the results because she was too scared to find out. Would the Doc have called to inform her if she had tested positive?

Part two, I've given her oral, first a couple weeks ago and then last weekend. She's the only one I've been with since having full bloodwork last year. Is it worthwhile for me to get tested in a few weeks as well?

Thank you!

The risk from giving oral sex to a woman is virtually non-existent. In fact, I'm unaware of any case of transmission in that way in the history of the epidemic.

I couldn't tell you whether or not the clinic would pursue her to give the results. Although I know there are some that wouldn't. She should go to collect the results.

hey dude, just to let u know, it was silly of ur girlfriend not to go get her results, which were probably negative.  Im not sure if her doctor would have called her. Was it a regular doctor, or a clinic? Im sure if she had HIV, and it was her regular doctor they would have called.  Im not so sure about a clinic. Im actually worried about oral sex right now too, my case is a little different though because I gave fellatio, which is the highest of the "low risk" spectrum, which sucks, but whatev.  Anyways, you had no risk from cunnilungus (oral sex on a chic). Theres like no proof that it can even be transmitted that way. Of course people claim it, but, people lie. Ive actually read a lot about this "people lie" thing. I even read a study on this hivinsite.com that said that they told gay men who said that oral was their only exposure that their results were positive, even though they were really negative.  When they finally told these gay men that the results were negative, almost all their responses were "Phew! now I can tell you what I REALLY did, I had unprotected anal, blah blah blah.." Im not saying that you can't get HIV from fellatio. Im sure with the extenuating circumstances like open sores and herpes, its quite possible. I am saying though, that when you have to face all your friends and family with a postive HIV result, it's probably a lot easier to say "well, I thought I was being safe, I was only having oral sex!"

Even if the guy who raped her had hiv, the risk of transmission is 1/1000 for one time exposure.  (She probably dodged that bullet.)  Next, there has never been a proven case of hiv transmitted through oral especially cunninglus.  You, my friend, have nothing to worry about. :)

How on earth did you come up with that statement, when he said she was raped and tested, but did not go back to retrieve her results? Yes, he would not have contracted HIV from going down on her but it's not a all clear that she is not infected.
