HIV testing at 5 weeks.

Hello. 5 weeks ago I received unprotected oral from a csw and then finished it with protected vaginal penetration. I have been very worried about hiv and got myself tested at week 3 and week 5 with spot antibody tests. Results were negative. I got myself tested with an EIA p24 antigen + HIV antibody test as well. Result was negative. Are these tests conclusive or should I wait for full 3 months?

Thanks.

Even i checked your report its a combo test , p24 antigen + antibodies early detection test . Its a 4 th gen test. I think Dr.tan not looked your report properly. if you still worried get one more 4th gen test for your peace of mind . I believe you are from India , you can get the 4th gen test at Dr.lal path lab , metropolis lab. else ask Dr.tan.

Hello. Posting an update. Gave sample for another test, a 4th gen DUO, on 6th day. Waiting for results.

Just an update. Got tested at around 8 weeks (54 days exactly). Thankfully negative again however this time it was not a DUO but a standalone hiv 1 and 2 abs test.

Ok got warned yesterday for excessive posting. Must have deserved it. My apologies.

Is it okay though to mention a new symptom today? Apart from the red spots on the arm I mentioned yesterday, today I woke up with what looked like the starting of conjunctivitis.

Do people with HIV infection exhibit this symptom? Conjunctivitis? Read on some forum where a hiv positive guy was saying that he had conjunctivitis during his seroconversion. So kind of worried.

Regards.

Maash you were right man! DR Tan, in his greatness, admitted that he had not read the report properly and that it was indeed a 4th gen test, conclusive at 5 weeks. Salutes!

Yes , DUO will detect antigen or antibody , so no worried , as i already said , you have NO RISK.

Maash....are you saying mate that in a scenario where p24 levels have become low, a duo test is more likely to detect antibodies than just an antibody test?

Vance I had no risk??? I have lost my appetite since the episode. How's that for a symptom? :/

Vance , how come duo is useless.  Cost wise?  Because still duo test is very sensitive to detect antibodies even antigen get drops off. Correct me if I am wrong.

99% at 6 weeks????? That's.......such a relief.

6 week a DUO is useless because the antigen level would be gone, but the antibody part would be fine. Yes 12 weeks is standard but 6 weeks is 99% conclusive.

One more thing! You say to get peace of mind I may get tested myself again with a 4th gen DUO. But now it's close to 6th week. Won't the p24antigen levels would have diminished by now? Won't it be just an antibody test now? Antibodies test require officially 12 weeks right?

Ok! I wrote to SRL's customer care for the specific details of the test and here is what they wrote back:

Test code# DT4201
Price:- Rs.1150/- only
Test name:- HIV EARLY SCREEN
Method:-Chemiluminescent Microparticle Immunoassay
Specimen:- Serum
Generation :- 4th

4th gen! And they say it it CMIA! However in the report it is written as EIA! Are CMIA and EIA substitutes?

So much confusion!

Thank you maash2281. Thing is the labs here don't even know about their own tests in detail. For example the doctor at SRL could not answer whether the test they did was 3rd or 4th gen. Their test DT4201 is mentioned as "CMIA" on their website whereas on the report it is mentioned as "EIA". So I was looking for the specific test of a specific lab which I can go for. Do you happen to know the details about the Lal Path lab's test?

Thank you very much for your replies so far.

Yeah that's what surprised me as well. I have read at many places that any test which looks for p24ag and ab is conclusive at 28th days or afterwards. But coming from a doctor the statement HAS to mean something! I could have so easily moved on with my life! Waiting for 7 more weeks is a hell I have to live through!

The p24 + antibody test is 4th gen duel/combo. He can't say it's antibody only test - it says it in the name.
