HIV transmission through unprotected oral sex

I performed un-protected oral sex on a trans gendered male and received her ejaculate in my mouth, which I swallowed. I do not know her HIV status, but she says she's negative for any STDs including HIV/AIDS. I NEED to know if I have exposed myself to HIV/AIDS.

I've had unprotected anal sex for about 20 seconds or less, due to the anxiety I can't remember too much. Ever since I've had enlarged lymph nodes in my armpits and neck. Armpit one disappeared after the first negative test and I'm still kinda stressed to look for the ones in my neck so I don't really feel like checking haha. I'd say there's really no chance that you exposed yourself to anything, but if you're anything like me then you won't have a true peace of mind unless you get the tests done, eventhough I'd say that in your case they're not needed :]

I just got my first decent night's sleep last night in quite a while, and it seems to have helped a bit with the anxiety. Thanks for your kind words mate. If you don't mind me asking, what was your encounter that was riskier than mine ?

Hey pauliec, I wouldn't worry too much if at all ... I had an encounter riskier than yours back in december and I couldn't sleep properly since then, got tested at 6 weeks with the duo (hiv1/2 ag+ab test) and it came back nonreactive, but i wouldnt trust it so I got back there this monday (lymph nodes in neck swollen and stuff like that ) and it came back negative again. So you're just running on anxiety. Trust me, I've been there. You are most definately negative.

I want to add one more piece of information that I can't believe I left out...I didn't get the ejaculation directly in my mouth, I pulled my head off as he /she was orgasiming and let her finish first, then between 10 and maybe 15 seconds later I licked some of it up...SO, it was exposed to air for a short time, and I didn't take it all...does this decrease my risk at all ? Thanks

Sorry if I'm over posting...didn't mean to ruffle any feathers. I'm scheduled for a test at a reputable clinic for May 5th...I guess I'll just have to wait it out. Again, sorry.

So I'm at 12 days past exposure, and neck, armpit, and groin lymph nodes are painful to touch and seem swollen...Mayo Clinic website says this could be a sign of recent HIV exposure, but everyone I've spoken to directly (one doctor and 3 or 4 coucillors at different places) and this website say no exposure to HIV from oral sex, so what is going on ? I'm NOT imagining the pain I feel, it's there, but is it my mind making me sick ? Or did I contract something else ? I've never had a risky exposure before, and I was tested for HIV  3 years ago and was negative...I'm married and I'm sure my wife hasn't cheated and the exposure I detailed in my first post is my only event outside our marriage...what's going on with me ???

Birdy, tank you so much for your words. They do help, believe me...I hope after my test I can relax about all of this...it's hard to know if I'll be able to or not...if it wasn't for these damn lymph nodes I would feel a lot better about it I think... I hope that you also find the peace you need...life is precious and short (in the grand scheme of things), and we all need to find our own way through...sometimes it's hard to know what to do, who to trust, what to think. My brain tells me that I'm probably fine, but my emotions run wild. Talking to this councilor today was very re-assuring, and I felt good...for a few hours...until that seed of doubt crept back in again...May 5th can't come fast enough, at least I have my weekly therapist meetings to talk about all of this (wish I could do them everyday, it helps me to talk about it with someone...anyone)

I understand your anguish, having recently experienced a similar oral sex scare.  After 3 months I went to a sexual health clinic run by public health and requested a rapid HIV.  While taking an inventory of my sexual history, the nurse asked what my risks were.  I responded protected vaginal and giving unprotected oral to a man, and that main concern was the oral.  She told me to relax and not worry as oral was the safest sex to have with regards to HIV.  She even went so far as to say that there has not been a report of HIV transmission through oral in Canada, that she is aware of.  As she is a public health nurse, I found her words to be very reassuring.  Truly.  It was the answer I needed to hear.  When I received my negative result, I asked her again about giving unprotected oral and she said again, it was the safer method of sex with respect to HIV.  I still spend time searching forums like this one to read responses such as "no risk".  It's hard to shake the depression and anxiety that a situation such as this can create.  After three months of waiting, it is still difficult to really internalize my negative results.  I wish you peace on your journey and want you to know that I hope everything turns out ok.  Try not to overthink it and stay away from Dr. Google.  I also hope that you can find some comfort and reassurance from this post and from the sound advice you've been given.  :)

So I'm back, because of anxiety and swollen lymph nodes everywhere...it's been 11 days since my "exposure" so I don't think the lymph node swelling is due to HIV, BUT I'm concerned anyway...I have no fever, rash, nausea, vomiting, diareah, etc..., but I don't sleep well at night so I'm tired (fatigued) and this lymph node thing is REALLY bothering me...sorry if this is over posting, but I'm very scared...

So I got a really good contact number for a testing place in a big city not to far from home, and I called them up and talked with one of their councilors for about 45 minutes today, what a Godsend this guy is.They preach the same gospel there that all of you preach here, oral sex is safe sex, he said that's what he would have told me if I had called asking about it before the encounter, that there is a statistical risk, but not a real one unless it was a "perfect storm" of events...if she had a high viral load, if I had major trauma in my mouth, etc...maybe there would be a risk, but just to be safe I scheduled a 4th generation test for Tuesday May 5th, which is just over two weeks after exposure, he says the test is like 99.6% accurate at that time, and no further retest is needed...that satisfies every requirement, so thanks to all of you and to this wonderful place (sorry I can't give out the name, I would if I could).

Yes I do and 8 days would be a waste of time. Actually any test would be unless it is for your peace of mind.

Vance, do you agree with maash and RubyWitch ? What they said above ?

But a test on Saturday would have been only 8 days from the exposure, how accurate would that result have been ? I want the peace of mind, of course, but You can't get it if they test too soon, right ?

Honestly, it's all a bit maddening. I trust what everyone on here has said, but you go out on the web and it's just not jiving with what is said here. Here's an example to me that just doesn't make sense at all. I called an HIV counciling place today in my town. I spoke to a very nice woman and told her the story I told above. She recommended I get a test. We talk for a while, and she says oral sex is very low risk, that I probably don't have anything to worry about as far as HIV...THEN she says (without me asking her !) that there has NEVER been a confirmed/reported case of HIV transmission from oral...not ONE, so I ask her "Why do I need a test then ?" She says for peace of mind, which is valid to me...but still...I talked to a doctor at another local clinic on Saturday who said the same thing, not ONE confirmed/reported case of oral transmission...but he recommends I get a test that day and another one in a few weeks...is it just about making money ???

I'm surprised they never heard of a duo test. It's a 4th generation hiv test that also looks for an antigen that has a short window but appears before one produces antibodies. Not all clinics have them yet. A lab will. If they only have a 3rd generation test that looks for antibodies only, a test at 4 weeks is a strong indicator but a 3 month test is required for a conclusive result.

HIV Combo 4th Generation test or HIV DUO 4th generation test or P24ANTIGEN/ANTIBODY TEST or HIV AG/AB 4 th generation test.

Simple You can ask for HIV 4th generation test.

Again, thank you maash...I've called around trying to find a testing place local to me, and no one has heard of a DUO test, does it go by any other name ? I'm in America, I'm not sure where all of you are from so I want to have the correct terminology for when I call to find out what kind of test they run...Thanks again

Dont check your body , You will not get HIV via oral sex. Check other STD's . For HIV, get one DUO test at 29th day .( Just for your peace of mind)
