HIv/Herpes symtoms(symptoms)??

In Jan/07 I had unprotected oral(received)with a woman and unprotected vaginal sex with a different woman. Feb/07 started to get flu like symptoms(headaches, stiff/sore neck, extreme fatigue at first, tingling at the head of the penis and in the ureatha and anus, very little clear discharge-No pain during urination though). Mar/07 took All Stds test(all neg). Hiv(neg) Herpes 2(positive) but no sores at all. May/07 still with the same symtoms (symptoms) could this be the Herpes or somthing else?

Your symptoms are very nonspecific--i.e., the identical symptoms could be caused by many conditions, probably a hundred or more different illnesses.  Similar symptoms can occur with HIV, and some of the symptoms can occur with herpes, but the absence of herpes sores and the negative blood tests for both suggest that neither HIV nor herpes is likely to be the cause.  However, if your HIV test was done less than a month after the last sexual exposure, repeat testing might be a good idea.  Also, it takes up to 3 months for the HSV-2 test to become positive.

Bottom line:  It is very unlikely you have either of those infections.  Beyond that, I can't say anything.  You'll need to see a health care provider if the symptoms continue or if you remain concerned.

Good luck--  HHH, MD

Dr,
With due respect, if I am getting it right, the original poster is saying that his
HSV 2 test came back positive and he tested for herpes and HIV at the end of 2 months post exposure. Looking at your response, I feel you are getting the idea that he had a negative herpes test as well.

o_g is correct; I misread part of your question, missed that you had a positive blood test for HSV-2.  Assuming that was a proper test, you are infected with HSV-2.

However, most likely that test result has nothing to do with the symptoms you describe, so the rest of my reply is accurate.  Your symptoms don't sound like herpes, and they came on too late; onset is generally 3-20 days after exposure.  You probably have asymptomatic genital herpes plus some other cause of your fever etc.  But if in doubt, find a health care provider knowledgeable about herpes and other STDs and follow his or her advice.

Sorry for the (partly) misleading initial reply.

Can someone (female) get infected with HSV2 twice? Like say if someone was infected years ago and had it mild, the got infected again? Would the outbreak and symptoms be and bad as the first ever outbreak?

Okay. I've recently have had unprotected sexual intercourse with a female. A few days later (4) days to be exact, I started noticing that I have had some unusual tiredness, a headache and and I noticed a zit-like bump that appeared over my waist. I haven't had any painful urination, but I'm very concerned that I may have contracted herpes. I'm wondering if you have any advise for me in this matter. Thank you for your time.
