and negative WB. I am planning ro get tested again in the next few weeks but in the interim am very nervous/concerned. Why would I test positive twice on the ELISA
Enzyme-linked immunoassay (ELISA) IS NOT a confirmatory test ( this test merely detects the presence of a foreign invader in the body). The Western Blot IS a confirmatory test ( this test confirms the presence of HIV antibodies in the body) To be completly sure of your results retest after 12 weeks IF you remain worried.
IF YOUR WESTERN BLOT IS NEGATIVE YOUR ARE NEGATIVE FOR HIV. IF YOUR DNA PCR IS NEGATIVE YOU ARE NEGATIVE FOR HIV....IF your ELISA is positive and your western Blot is negative...as I stated before you do NOT have HIV but something esle is making your ELISA test positive...Please go see doctor for an examination.
PCR/DNA or RNA tests are not diagnostic tests. Both tests must be confirmed by an antibody test then a confirmative if you received a positive result on the antibody test.
Thanks everyone. I have seen numerous references to seraconverting and window periods and it is not clear to me whether they refer to ELISA tests or WB tests. Is a few weeks long enough for WB test to pick up the antibodies if the ELISA came back positive?
