Hi Doctor,
I live in Sydney, Australia. On Satursday 5 April I had protected intercourse and oral sex (her on me) with a prostitute. Nothing was unprotected and the condom was change twice during the session - it would appear that the lady was concerned about health issues. We also engaged in passionate kissing with tongue. I did not give her oral sex and the intercourse that we had was not vigorous and the condon did not break (i did not undertake this but i am aware that the prostitute does engage in anal sex with a condon which may exposure her to higher risk of HIV)
Now, three days ago I developed a sore throat which has made my voice 'husky' and I have developed a nasty cough, and a slight fever at night. It would appear that i do not have any rash and my glands in my groin and armpits are not particularly sensitive. As far as i can tell, the same is true of my throat glands. Though my voice box is sore.
Am i correct in assessing my risk of HIV exposure as almost 0%? It was a completely protected encounter. However, as i have developed these symptoms 7 days after the event does worry me a little bit. What would you advise and is it possible to put a risk-percentage on my activity?
many thanks,
Luke
