Hiv Scare at gym cut by bottle

Hello all,

I have been surfing your forum and really like what you all do here.  I trust your expertise and want to see if you think i have a risk situation i need testing for.  I was at the gym getting ready to workout and i grabbed the spray bottle that has cleaner in it to clean the bench. When i grabbed i scrapped my finger on the handle of the bottle.  I looked at it and it bled a little but was still a very small cut/scrape.  I wanted to know if this puts me at risk since i dont know how long it had been since anyone had used it.  ( i was only standing there for maybe 10 seconds before i grabbed it but someone could have used it right before me and possibly got cutt)  This bottle is used to clean the equipment and it worries me that there may be blood on the handle where i got cut. I know it says you cant get hiv off environmental surfaces or inamite objects but what about if they cut you can you still get it.  I hear needles in  acupuncture can cause hiv and they are not hollow so how is this different from my situation.  Please let me know if it would take alot of blood or a deeper cut to transmit.  Thanks i am really worried, feeling like i ruined everything and need your guys help.

Tim

If you were a surgeon and cut yourself on a broken bone with your hands suck within a body cavity then there would be a risk.

Hi teak and Vance,

Can you also agree that what vance was saying about it would have not been deep enough of a cut from the handle and there would not have been enough blood to transfer in when i got cut on the handle?  That is my last question sorry to to be so crazy.

Doesn't change a thing to what Vance has already told you.

HIV is unable to reproduce outside its living host (unlike many bacteria or fungi, which may do so under suitable conditions), except under laboratory conditions; therefore, it does not spread or maintain infectiousness outside its host.

Hi Vance,

Thanks and i guess i am really dealing with ocd here and i believe your answer and appreciate the time you took.  I just want to make sure that you understand i got cut by the handle and am worried by if the handle having blood on it when it cut me.  I am not worried about having a cut and touching blood as i see no risk there. Does the being cut by a possibly bloody handle change your answer?

"cant get hiv off environmental surfaces or inamite objects" you answered your question.

If you search through you will see time and time again blood transmission is not a risk because no one who gets a cut is bleeding as much as needed or even is deep enough as needed or comes into contact with enough blood

If you feel like you ruined everything then your either not truthful with what happened or you have anxiety that you should see a therapist to help you deal with.
