The need for a repeat HIV test if still within the window period after a specific exposure should be discussed. Although fourth generation tests shorten the time from exposure to seroconversion a repeat test at three months is still recommended to definitively exclude HIV infection.
All of the information you have been given with regards to testing is correct. I know that in the UK with a combo the GUM clinics will say that is conclusive UNLESS you continue to have severe symptoms i.e whole body rash, severe sore throat, very high fever. if you have these they suggest you re-test.
The thing that I am curious about is that you have stated you tested regarding a 'suspicious exposure' what exactly was your exposure you may find that what you think was a risk was not and therefore testing information is irrelevant.
There are no tests marketed or sold to give a conclusive negative test earlier than 3 months post exposure.
Combo test is a very good test. PCR-DNA test has a high false positive rate. Don't risk a false positive. If you do get it, you will be devastated. You have negative duo test at 31 days. Duo tests are over 99% accurate at 28 days. Experts on this forum, such as Dr Hook and Dr HHH consider a negative duo test at 28 days conclusive. Believe them. If you want 100% reassurance, get an antibody test around 12 weeks. But meanwhile, relax. The chances that you have HIV at this point is minuscule.
PCR-DNA tests are not approved for diagnostic use for HIV.
Thanks and one mor question, do you offer hiv pcr proviral dna test?
