Hiv infection from amsterda prostitute. ? ?

Firstly may I congratulate you on the excellent responses you provide on this forum.
Ok here is my situation. Back in Early may I visited amsterdam and whilst extremely intoxicated visited 2 window prostitutes in the red like district. I believed I had "safe sex" that is protected vaginal intercourse. Though I can not entirely remember due to my state (stupid I know). On returning back to the Uk approximately one week later I got 3 red rashes on my penis which were incredibly itchy, but cleared on there own after 2 weeks.  Also when masturbating I noticed I has much more discarge han normal. Not sticky but runny.
At this point i went to my GUM who tested me for everything except Herpes and HIV. The specialist said it was to soon for a reliable HIV test. My results came back and i was positive for Chlamydia. The test done was a DNA test from the opeing in my penis.
Prior to this event i have had only unprotected sex once but that was over 1 year ago. In september this year i also got diagnosed with anal warts (unsure how long I have had these) during a check up at my doctors for piles.  The anal warts remain difficult to clear up. The chlamydia was treated and has since gone.

my questions are as follows
1. Did my symptoms sound like a typical chlamydia case ?
2. How could I have got my anal warts  ?
3. As i can not recall consistent condom use in the incidents described , what do you believe my level of risk of HIV infection is?
4. If i were infected by chlamydia as welland also anal warts. In your rpofessional judgement and experience how uch has this increased my chances of HIV infection (I have no other ilnesses)?
5. Would you recommend HIV testing in my instance

I hope this all makes sense.
Apologies for length and clarity.
I am extremely anxious about this

Keep up the good work
Dexter

The in-person evaluation and advice from a UK GUM clinic provider is more reliable than anything I can come up with.  Assuming your Amsterdam sex in fact was condom-protected, you must have acquired your chlamydial infection somewhere else, but I admit that seems unlikely given your sexual history.  Most likely there was some exposure in   Anybody else you have had sex with in the past few months needs to be tested and perhaps treated.

1) Chlamydia does not cause red spots or any other skin lesion on the penis. 2) Anal warts occur from time to time in heterosexual men.  Most likely from asymptomatic genital infection with auto-inoculation by one's own hands--but the exact explanation isn't known.  3) Low risk for HIV, even if some of your exposure was unprotected.  (Most Amsterdam CSWs get HIV tested pretty regularly.  Also I believe, but do not know for sure, that the employers of the women in the windows are particularly carefuly to ensure the women's safety in terms of STD and HIV screening.)  4) The anal warts made no difference.  Any increased risk due to chlamydia was too little to worry about.  5) You don't need HIV testing because of this particular incident.  However, every sexully active person ought to be HIV tested from time to time; since it's on your mind, this would be a good time.  (I would have thought the GUM provider recommended it; HIV testing is routine in most STD/GUM clinics).

Best wishes--  HHH, MD

I understand your situation, as my experiance was very similar to yours.

I am also in the uk but my local GUM clinic asked me if I wanted a HIV test on my very first visit without asking me for any dates and before any consultation with the doctor..

Even when I saw the doctor and told him that it has only been 18 days, he still asked me if I wanted a HIV test and if I wanted to see a counsellor first.

Maybe you should phone your GUM Clinic and ask if you could a HIV test even though it is still early days.

I am sure you will get the same -ve results as I.
