Hiv questions

I had posted in the STD area, and will not be re-posting a huge story or anything. I went to the doctors two weeks after unprotected vaginal sex, they took blood, and later that week said I was negative for everything including hiv. My doctor said to return in 6 weeks for an hiv follow up since it was something I was concerned with. I went this week and they didn't take blood, instead it was a rapid hiv mouth swab (which was negative). He said they weren't going to take blood unless the swabs were positive, then he said to come back for another swab at 3 months from exposure. Are these swabs accurate? What tests are they? Antibody or something? Is there a certain test I should be asking for? Thanks.
