Hiv rapid test done wrong?

by fraidjane, Jul 02, 2009 05:20PM
I tested negative for hiv with an orasure rapid test at the free clinic.  I waited 3 months as recomended (some say 6 months I have even read 6 weeks) but I am a little worried because the lady at the clinic made me swab my upper gums once between gums and teeth and then the lower gums once. I have read several different methods (some swipe both sides of swab) I want to believe test but now I am worried again just a little. The lady explained that the top line of the test was the control line and that if it was red (it was) the test worked properly.  Can I be sure? Should I test again in a few months? I want to be done with this. I will be careful from now on.
