Hiv risk

Would a NAAT test and rapid hiv test be conclusive after 6 months? Why do some doctors say it can take up to a year to show positive? And why can't I ask dr.hhh and hook any question?  Rveryone has a different view on the window period for testing who is right...I would hope the CDC with the 6 month test

Yah thanks buddy for the quick response...most places online that tests say 2 then 6 weeks after then others say 6 months you are good then my MD says a year it's all over the place I have had different inputs on it. We'll I'm sure the truth will show up sooner than later but until then I'm waiting for the worst. But thanks for the support for sure

I'm sorry you and your g/f are having health problems.  Maybe you can look for another doctor to give you a 2nd opinion about what's going on.

There's got to be a reason and it might make sense to have another set of medical eyes look into it and help you figure it out.

Two heads are better than one.

Thank you both for your response...it's much appreciated but I know something isn't right with me...have been testing so much lately up to 6 months and have no idea what it is...I will post a update when I find out what's going on...but in these forums has anyone posted a hiv positive after 6 month test?

Because your Dr is not educated on the most up to date info on HIV testing.  You never even had a risk for HIV.

Dr's forum is closed for internal review, no they did not get in trouble.

No, the doctors did NOT "get in trouble."  The advice posted by our experts is still valid.  All of our expert forums are currently closed for required review, not just our HIV expert forums.

Why is it that my doctor says it can take up to a year then? I have had every symptom in the book for hiv after a unprotected oral sex event and so has my now girlfriend. I am seriously so freaked out at this whole thing and hope that it's not hiv related. But why arnt the doctors on here answering questions anymore about it? Did they get in trouble telling people that 6-8 weeks were conclusive and definite?

CDC guidelines state that any test taken at 90 days and more is conclusive. 6 months and 1 year are for people who has undergoing health problems like chemotherapy treatment or taking immunosupression medication after an organ transplant.
If you are not one of those people your testing is conclusive.
