Hiv transmission risk. Worried.

Hiv transmission risk. Worried.

Hi there, I recently had unprotected oral and protected insertive anal sex with a sex worker of unknown status. The anal sex was very brief, I used 2 condoms due to my own paranoia, and plently of lube and was inserted inside of her for maybe 30 seconds max until she complained it hurt to much. Both condoms seemed to stay intact, and she then finished me off unprotected oral. What is my risk if she WAS infected with HIV? Should I be worried? I was tested for all STI 2 months back and tested NEG for everything, and I always practice safe sex, but i'm still worried. If she WAS infected with HIV, would testing be required based on this instance? Thanks.

Welcome to our forum.  The exposure you describe did not put you at risk for HIV.  for starters, despite the fact that you desire to assume she had HIV, it is unlikely that she did.  Even if she did however, there is no risk.  Condom protected sex is safe sex, thus you are not at risk because of insertive anal sex.  As for oral sex, the quoted figure for HIV risk, if one has oral sex with an infected partner is less than 1 in 10,000 and, in my estimation that is too high. Some experts state there is no risk at all from oral sex.  Neither of us on this site have ever seen or reading the medical literature of a convincing instance in which HIV was passed by oral sex, thus act was not something to worry about either.

No testing is needed following the exposures you describe.

Finally, a word of caution. From time to time clients tell us that they have used two condoms to be sure they are "safe".  In fact, the risk of condom breakage is higher when two condoms are used than when a single condom is used because of the way the condoms rub against each other.  Please only use a single condom in the future.  EWH

Thanks Doc for the quick response. I'm just curious if you have ever heard of someone acquiring the HIV virus through protected insertive anal sex, even if the condom stays intact and is properly used, or can you guarantee that you will always be safe 100% while having both vaginal and anal sex while properly using a condom? Thats my last question, Thanks Doc!
