Hives

by jordan23, May 28, 2007 12:00AM
Hello doctor.  Are hives a usual ars symptom or HIV symptom. Im talking like hives that lasted maybe two days and were with no known other symptoms. They came on the first day and they were on and off for a couple of hours on the first day then they were fine and then they came on again very very mild the second day for about an hour and then they disapearred again and that was that. I have tested negative at the 6 week mark and the hives came on about a week and half after i ws tested.  They hives scared me because i have never had anything like that before. Should i be worried about them. They seem to be gone already as it lasted 2 days.

No, hives are not a symptom of HIV--certainly not when hives is the only symptom.  And your negative HIV test proves the hives weren't due to HIV.  Most cases are due to allergy of some kind--it could be a medication, a food, or a chemical in your environment.  See a health care provider if/when the problem recurs.  But there is no reason to suspect HIV as the cause.

The location of the rash is irrelevant, whether arms or anywhere else.
